Any names out there that could honour Robin Derek?

A little bit of a turn from my previous posts! [name_f]Baby[/name_f] is due within the next two weeks and I’m just exploring all options to make sure we feel confident we’ve landed on “the one”.

[name_f][/name_f]

So far, our top two names for a boy are [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]. However, I am curious if you Berries know of any names out there that could honour my husband. His first name is [name_m]Robin[/name_m] and his middle name is [name_m]Derek[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

I haven’t really been able to come up with anything for a boy and only [name_f]Wren[/name_f] for a girl.

[name_f][/name_f]

Anyone have any ideas we could consider?

[name_f][/name_f]

Thanks in advance!

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] (a form of Robert)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Robbe[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Robinson[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (Derek is actually a form of Theodoric!)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Theo[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Telman (derived from the same roots as Derek)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Terry[/name_m] (derived from the same roots as Derek)
[name_f][/name_f]any name ending in -bert since [name_m]Robin[/name_m] is a diminutive of [name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] (means victory of the people connecting to Derek’s meaning: ruler of the people)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Henry[/name_m] (means home ruler, like Derek’s ruler of the people)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Brendan[/name_m] (means king/prince, like Derek’s ruler of the people)
[name_f][/name_f]Rey/Reyes (ditto to Brendan)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rex[/name_m] (ditto)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Girl[/name_f]:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Bobbie[/name_f] (a dark horse name similar to [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] and Charlie)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Terrie[/name_f] (ditto to Bobbie)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Dora[/name_f] (as a short form of [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], which connects to Derek’s roots in Theodoric)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Thea[/name_f] (another short form of Theodora)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Dorothea/Dorothy (the reverse of Theodora)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Clara[/name_f] (means bright, connecting it to Robin’s meaning bright fame)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Reina[/name_f] (means queen, connecting it to Derek’s meaning ruler of the people)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Rey[/name_f] (means king, connecting it to Derek’s meaning- normally masculine, but can easily work on a girl as a middle name)

[name_f][/name_f]

I know some of these are stretchier than others and most people wouldn’t get them, but I think they all provide a sweet subtle link to your husband’s name!

[name_m]Rocco[/name_m] / [name_m]Roscoe[/name_m] / [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f] → combining the sounds of both

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] (shares the same origin as Robin)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Rex[/name_m] (shares sounds and letters, initial of [name_m]Robin[/name_m] and meaning of Derek)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Ruben[/name_m] (similar sound [name_f][/name_f]- also means ‘behold a son’ which is kind of cute as an honor)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Roderick[/name_m] (combining the sounds of both and meaning [name_f][/name_f]- bright fame + ruler of the people = famous ruler)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Brody[/name_m] (first three letters of [name_m]Robin[/name_m] + ‘D’ sound from Derek)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Erik[/name_m] (from the sounds of [name_m]Derek[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- and meaning)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Derren[/name_f] / [name_m]Derrin[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] (beginning of [name_m]Derek[/name_m] + end of Robin)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Declan[/name_m] (from sounds of Derek)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Bertram[/name_m] (“bright raven” [name_f][/name_f]- similar meaning to [name_m]Robin[/name_m] and bird related)

I love [name_f]Bobbie[/name_f]! Never thought of that connection before. And you’re right, it’s in line with [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] and [name_m]Charlie[/name_m], which are two dark horses on our list :slightly_smiling_face:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] is also still a frontrunner for a girl and it’s certainly nice that she shares the same “bright” meaning as [name_m]Robin[/name_m]. Thanks for pointing that out!

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought to [name_f]Honor[/name_f] [name_m]Robin[/name_m] [name_m]Derek[/name_m] was [name_m]Roderick[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]. [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]Roddie[/name_m] would be so cute!

[name_f][/name_f]

Other thoughts would be:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Derin[/name_m] /Darren
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Odin[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Redderick

Great suggestions! Especially love [name_m]Rex[/name_m], [name_m]Roderick[/name_m] and [name_m]Erik[/name_m]! I had no idea [name_m]Erik[/name_m] and [name_m]Derek[/name_m] shared the same meaning. [name_m]Erik[/name_m] is actually a family name for us so it could be a real contender for the middle spot and serve the dual purpose of honouring the family and my husband at the same time. Thanks!!

I love this! A bit of a fresh and unexpected twist on [name_m]Robin[/name_m] :slightly_smiling_face:

I agree a little [name_m]Roderick[/name_m] would be adorable! I also like your suggestion of [name_m]Odin[/name_m]. Thanks!
