Came across a baby girl named that this morning… I have never heard of it before… any ideas what it means? [name]Precious[/name] baby!! But, I have never heard that name before! They were pronouncing it “Oh -cee”…
There’s a place in [name]Missouri[/name] called [name]Ocie[/name]. There was a musician called [name]Ocie[/name] [name]Davis[/name]. It’s also an abbreviation that stands for Online Computer Information Exchange. Or her parents favourite letters of the alphabet were O and C, they couldn’t decide which name to choose and so they gave her initials instead. The name [name]Ocie[/name] was also used around the 1880-1890 era.
So does the name have an actual meaning? Or not really?
I’ve heard people called this but only as a nn for [name]Oceane[/name]…if that’s it’s origins I think the meaning is obvious but as a stand alone name I’ve never heard it… There’s a male name Osee which is a variation of [name]Hosea[/name] meaning salvation…
hmm… interesting!!
Well I just found a site that claims it means: The eighth child. Also a variant of [name]Oceanus[/name], meaning “god of the seas” in Greek, and the name of a [name]Titan[/name] in Greek mythology. Interesting!
I think she was the third child, so… guess it comes from [name]Oceanus[/name]… of course that is purely speculation. [name]Ocie[/name] is kind of cute though
I’ve only seen it as a nn for names like [name]Oceane[/name], [name]Oceanus[/name], Osceola (a book character), [name]Oscar[/name], etc. and would defer to their meanings if I had to guess.
I have a great-aunt named [name]Osie[/name] (OH-see) born in the 1920s. That is her complete first name, not short for anything. So I think of it as an sweet old-fashioned name.
Maybe it was her initials… O.C?
like [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] etc…??
