I’m a mama of two already (3.5 and 11 months) i got pregnant with them after getting off BC, so this is new to me! I’ve been on BC since my last was three months old and the last couple months i’ve been very forgetful and i have missed days and made up for them when i remembered (like two in one day) and i’ve gone off them to have my period before the pack is over and gone without a period for four weeks sometimes. Anyways my last period was light (like normal) and my last pack ended and no period. I took a test, it was expired and if was negative and i’ve been reading that i should have other symptoms of pregnancy but with my other kids i didn’t have any except no period, so i’m going to get another test tomorrow but seeing if anyone has got pregnant while on BC before and was it similar to what i’m going through right now?? Eeek :-?
It’s a bit harder than normal to get pregnant when you’ve missed some birth control but have been on it fairly regularly, but it is absolutely possible (more or less so depending on what part of your cycle you’re in when you miss) and it’s worth taking very seriously — double dosing to make up for a missed one does not help and is not what is recommended when you forget. The only thing to do in that case is to take the next one when it’s due as normal, and take extra precautions for at least a week of regular pill-taking. If you’re having trouble staying absolutely consistent, it’s better to look into birth control methods that don’t require you to remember a daily pill, to save yourself the worry and risks.
I’ve known people who got pregnant after missing just the odd days. You basically can’t consider yourself truly on birth control if you’re ever missing days, because you’re always in the danger zone. Hopefully this is just a little scare and a reminder to be more careful! I hope I don’t sound harsh, but it does make me nervous how many people don’t seem to realise the absolute necessity of either taking every single pill, or doubling up on precautions.
I’m not sure if people usually have more symptoms right away when they’ve been pregnant before, but I’m sure some won’t have any symptoms for the first few weeks regardless, since that’s so common. The only way you can know is to get a proper test done.
I got pregnant while on nuvaring. Like you, I wasn’t using it as consistently as I should have been. I believe I had left it out an extra day or two after my period. I never really had symptoms until after I got a positive result after missing a period. After I had my daughter I had an IUD put in (the non-hormonal one) and it’s been great for almost 6 years. I’ll definitely get another one if I can’t get my tubes tied once it’s ready to come out.
I got pregnant while I was on the pill. I hardly ever missed one, but around the time I got pregnant I missed one twice (had a lot on my mind). We didn’t want any children, but we had our son Hjörtur, and he’s a blessing. Anyway, you can get pregnant while on BC. I didn’t have any symptoms for about 5 weeks, except maybe my breasts were a little sensitive or sore, but I didn’t pay much attention to it.
