Hello All,
This might be kind of an odd question, but I’m looking for those who have named their daughter [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] or are a [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] or know someone named [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]. I’m wondering what your experience has been with the name. Are there many spelling or pronunciation issues? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you use a nickname? And what are people’s reactions to the name?
And if it is your child’s name, how did family and friends react when you announced it?
It’s a name I really like, but I’m hoping to hear some “real life” experiences with the name before it goes on my list.
I know a year old [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], who spells her name [name_f]Talullah[/name_f] (which frustrates me to no end when I used to like the name and found the swap of l’s confusing). She is just [name_f]Talullah[/name_f], no nicknames. When her mum was introducing her, people would pull funny faces and question what made her call her her name, but only because where we live an uncommon, unusual name (which [name_f]Talullah[/name_f] is seen as) rarely happens here, so when one does come about people have to double take. Because the name isn’t spelled the way most people would spell it, spelling issues arise occasionally but from what I’ve seen and heard, her name hasn’t been pronounced wrong.
I hope this helps, despite only going from things I’ve witnessed and good ol’ social media.
Ecomina- thanks for the info. I’ve never met a [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] (or [name_f]Talullah[/name_f]) myself. I’ve always wondered if it was too unusual for people. It’s interesting to hear some real life experiences.
I have a [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]! She is 4.5 and currently snoozing next to me on the couch while Frozen drones on in the background. (For the 6 millionth time this year.)
I love her name! Her nicknames are [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f] and Lulabelle, but mostly [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]. We also have a [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Tilly[/name_f] so can’t have any nicknames that start with ‘T’. Confusing!
I’m in NZ, not sure where you are, but here [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] is waaaaaaaay out of the top 1000 (I’m guessing, not even sure our stats go up to 1000 in a small country!)
When we named her most people had heard of the name but a few hadn’t. No one was bothered by it, had to spell it a few times, and people still mess up the amount of 'L’s in her name but such is life. She knows how to spell her name and I’m sure she will start correcting people soon enough!
We only ever get nice compliments about the name, it has been surpassed in ‘weirdness’ by her baby sister now anyway. A few people thought it was really American / Southern sounding, some people think of Bugsy [name_m]Malone[/name_m] and others the [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] kids books. Depends what age/stage of life they are at I guess. It’s one of those names that people have heard but is still really uncommon I think, I like that.
[name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to ask me any more questions if you like
I knew one who is about 8 years old now. No one ever had any pronunciation problems, but since it’s a long name almost everyone, parents included, called her [name_f]Lu[/name_f] or [name_f]Lula[/name_f]. I have no idea how they spell it and consider it a spelling challenge! When my friends announced the name I thought it was fun, cute, quirky & a bit celeby for them because of the connection to [name_f]Demi[/name_f] [name_m]Moore[/name_m]'s daughter. My grandmother instantly thought of Talulah Bankhead. Aside from those associations I think the vibe is that it’s a cute, quirky name.
I know a [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]- she is about 15 or 16, I think. I don’t know her very well, but it really suits her, and from what I know, people don’t seem to have trouble with it.
Although my name is not [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], it was a nickname my parents called me from time to time. I was okay with it, but I don’t think I understood why they called me [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], as my name is nothing near sounding or looking like [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f].
