Hey all! I am 40 weeks today and my husband and I are still trying to decide on a name for our little guy. He will likely either be a [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] ([name_m]Leo[/name_m]) or [name_u]James[/name_u], which are two very different naming styles. I am 1st generation Greek American and our daughter has a Greek name, Chrysanthi ([name_f]Ani[/name_f]) and [name_u]James[/name_u] would be after my husband’s grandfather. It was actually my idea to use the name [name_u]James[/name_u] because I have always thought it was a nice name. My husband’s grandfather had a stroke when he was young, so he did not know him very well and doesn’t care either way if we use it.
[name_u]James[/name_u] feels almost too traditional and I am worried about the connection to the 300 movies for the name [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]. I think the name [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is handsome and I absolutely love the nickname [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but since I am Greek myself and heard these names my whole life, I have a hard time telling what is “usable” in American culture. Have any of you nameberries named your son [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]? If so, are you happy with your choice? Has it been difficult at all for your son?
Thanks!!
