I had a little guy in my primary class last year whose name was Cyndyr. It’s pronounced “Coon-deer”, and I’m pretty sure it’s Gaelic. I’ve never heard it before, and I can’t find anything online about it (definition, origin, even proof that it’s actually a name). Anyone seen it before, and what do you think?
Wow, no, I’ve never seen that name before and would never dream of pronouncing it like that. I’d probably have guessed Cinder which I guess sounds boyish enough but the spelling would make me think more girl. [name]Do[/name] people know gaelic where you are and can pronounce it right, or is everyone guessing, wrong maybe and having to be corrected etc? [name]How[/name] do other people like/react to the name?
Where I’m from, Gaelic is not a strong influence, but it is spoken in other parts of the province. I know that his parents are of Gaelic descent, and their other children have similar names. That’s the way they pronounce it, so I went with that, but it took me forever and a day to figure it out
