Aoife or Alice?

I’m sorry for posting here a few times today. I feel like I have so many names in my head and I’m just not sure what direction I want to go in anymore. Frustrating! But hopefully this last one will help:

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] or [name_f]Alice[/name_f]?

([name_f]Aoife[/name_f] is pronounced EE-fa.)

Thanks in advance.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] are lovely names!

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have Irish heritage and/or do you live in an area where Irish names are common? If not you may encounter many pronunciation issues with [name_f]Aoife[/name_f]. If this doesn’t bother you then ok, but something to keep in mind!

I like both and can’t really pick a favourite.

I love them both too! I live in Australia, but my family comes from [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]. It’s annoying because I like [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] more, but the possible pronunciation problems bother me, which makes me favour [name_f]Alice[/name_f] a little bit more, and then I just end up liking them equally again! Urgh.

You could use both? [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] could work, depending on your surname.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are lovely. I personally prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], along with many pretty Irish names, has seen a resurgence, especially with the [name_m]Saturday[/name_m]'s baby [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f].

I’d forgotten about [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f].

I love both, but slightly prefer [name_f]Aoife[/name_f]. For my own child though, no way. Our only connection to [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] is so far in the past, I’ve only spent two days in the country myself and have no real plans to go back, and no one would know how to pronounce it.

Although [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] is quite lovely if you need to include the pronunciation on a naming website forum it will probably cause a lot of headaches for your daughter, so I would go with [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. Either that or stick [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] in the middle.

I’d say [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], I think it’s such a beautiful name! I also think that it’s becoming more “known” now so the pronunciation problems may not be there or may be less of an issue than what you may think, but it’s not “known” enough to be popular. I think it will raise some eyebrows still (positively, of course) and gain lots of lovely compliments

I prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. It’s an international name. Most people know how to pronounce it. But [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] is also beautiful.

[name_f]Aoife[/name_f]! It’s beautiful and a gem.
