Aquila?

We are team green, due in about 12 weeks. I’ve been focusing on perfecting our girl name because as far as I was concerned, our boy name was agreed on months ago.
Today we were talking space/constellations and bf commented that [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] would be an awesome middle, not knowing it was on the “names I love but am not suggesting because they’re way too out there for your tastes” list. I’ve always loved this name but I don’t know if it flows ok. I’m so torn!

@ashthedreamer !!

I love Aquila! It’s got such a lovely clear sound and the A ending and beginning makes it feel really poised and balanced to me. A ending boy names are some of my favourites anyway, but this is a particularly awesome one :sunglasses:

I love both your Caspian combos but Caspian Aquila flows a little better to me because the names end in different sounds. It is a little more adventurous as a combo, but I think it works! Caspian Quinn is amazing too though — love the super smart Quinn on a boy.

I LOVE [name_u]Aquila[/name_u]. I discovered it as a child and I’ve never stopped loving it. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] sounds amazing. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is equally awesome, but I’m most drawn to the unexpectedness and flow of [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Aquila[/name_u]. :slight_smile:

Caspian [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] M. flows ok.

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] flows way better than [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] in my opinion! Plus, I always feel like the middle spot is where you should have fun, and [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] is such a cool, unexpected choice.

I think both options flow really well, depending on the sounds and syllables in your surname.

Love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], and while [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] is beautiful it does also seem “out there“ - but in the middle name spot is the perfect place to use more “out there” names!

:heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:. If only someone would tag me on threads with all my favorite names so I could go googley eyed lol.

P.S. WHERE was all this [name_u]Berry[/name_u] love for [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] when I fell in love with him 18 months ago?! :joy::joy:

@Witchgreens80 - I heartily approve of [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Aquila[/name_u]! lol. [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] is in my top 5 (my combo is [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]), and one of those names I could gush about, potentially for hours! I am all for more Aquilas—[name_u]Aquila[/name_u] is as close as it gets to perfection, IMO! :heart: [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] is brilliant and has been growing on me ever since I got the email notification where @katinka tagged me. I initially thought [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] + [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] was too much unusual, but I love how they pair against each other and it makes me think of eagles and the [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Sea[/name_u] and [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] and adventures and [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] in the early church, and summer nights on the grass, stargazing and laughing. What could be better?

For what it’s worth, [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is handsome, but I think [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] sounds better, and works better in general. I am 1000% Team [name_u]Aquila[/name_u]! :heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

Good luck!

I love [name_u]Aquila[/name_u]! It’s my great grandfathers name, he went by Quil.

I think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] actually flows better than [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].

Tequila?

Caspian [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] is so cool

Well we are pronouncing it “uh-KWILL-uh” so hopefully not? Not that I don’t love tequila…

@Witchgreens80

So for starters, tequila is an amazing invention :slight_smile:

Some ponderings for your consideration:

  • adding an extra L [Aquilla] will help ensure the " uh-kwill-uh " desired pronunciation with English speakers.

  • both Quill and Willa are more common / desirable names these days. If Aquila will be pronounced " uh-kwill-uh," Quill and Willa are both the natural shortenings, and pro’s of going with either of those names instead would include the name being familiar; never having her name misspelled / mispronounced ; not needing to spell it and re-spell it over the phone, etc.

… SELF EDIT. Somehow I missed that this was in the boys names thread until I scrolled back up and saw Caspian as the FN. Can I claim pregnancy brain? Also, I thought [and still think] Aquilla was a girls name (vs a boys name). Disregard the above Willa suggestion - that was for a girl, not a boy. Sorry!

I vote for Caspian Quinn. It’s super handsome.
For a boy, heh.
Caspian Quill would also be wonderful.

In my head I was totally also pronouncing it “uh-KEE-la”, and that seems more in line with what the nameberry page says? Is the uh-KWILL-uh pronunciation common?

[name_f]My[/name_f] great grandfather prn his name as Uh-Kwill-uh. I’ve never met another one but I always assumed that was the normal pronunciation. I never would have thought Uh-Kee-la. I live in southwest US. I always find it so interesting how some names are prn so different depending on location/accent.

Edit: I looked up how my gpa spelt his name and it was with 2 Ls- Aquilla. So maybe that changes the pronunciation?

I noticed that the nameberry page used that pronunciation as well but when I looked up how to pronounce it I found mostly references to the KWILL pronunciation and every biblical reference I have heard is the same.
