Arabella? Jemima? Or something else?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] or [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] or can you suggest any other names for my baby girl who is still nameless
There are not nicknames for either that I like so that is what’s holding me back. Her two brothers both have two syllable names so it’s stressing me out. In an ideal world I want a name that’s not in the uk top 100, is elegant and femine but with a sweet nickname.
[name_m]New[/name_m] ideas and opinions really appreciated!!

I prefer [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] of those two. Nickname could be [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_u]Jem[/name_u], Ems, [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]/[name_f]Emma[/name_f].

I quite like [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]-was just worried people wouldn’t understand it as a nickname for [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]. I love mimi but can’t use it as it was my sister’s pets name

My favourite is [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] it’s elegant, feels glamorous, and spunky. I think [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is great.

I like [name_u]Ari[/name_u] for [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] it gives the name a tomboy edge and it’s upbeat.

I much prefer [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]! I think it’s such an underused gem.

Some nn ideas:

[name_f]Jemma[/name_f]
[name_u]Jem[/name_u]
[name_f]Mim[/name_f]

Thanks for the replies, anyone have any new suggestions? I love [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] and [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] but my husbands not keen. I also like phoebe, [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] but these are either too popular in the U.K. Or again the hubs isn’t on board

I love [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]. So pretty. [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] reminds me of the syrup brand (in the US).

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] for sure! [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] reminds me of the maple syrup… and it’s not even good maple syrup either!

Of the two I like [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] and think [name_f]Mim[/name_f] would be a cute nn. Others have mentioned some good ideas too.

Other thoughts:
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Aviva[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Serafina[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]! It such an underused classic yet confident name! Not too keen on arabella- makes me think a snobby private school girl!

As for other suggestions;

  • [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Emmi[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f])
  • [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Lila/name_f
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Posie[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u])
  • [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Susie[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] -could be an awesome stand alone name!)

You’re British, so I’m not sure if you understand the syrup references…in the US there is a very well-known pancake syrup called Aunt [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], and she is also the character that advertises the syrup. The name [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is pretty much unheard of in the US except for this syrup/character, but knowledge of the Aunt [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] syrup/character is broad and deep in American culture. So when most Americans hear [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], they think only of the syrup and the Aunt [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] character; they have no other frame of reference for this name.

That said, I think [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] are very cute nicknames for [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]!

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is another name almost unheard of in the US, but it seems to me that either [name_u]Ari[/name_u] or [name_f]Bella[/name_f] would be common nicknames.

Good luck deciding!
