My sister is pregnant with b/g twins who she wants to name Lumi and Euan. Her firstborn is 0leander and he goes by nn 0llie. She doesn’t have a nameberry account so on her behalf- are the nns too similar or not?
Too similar
A little bit awkward but it’s fine
I love it!

EDIT: It seems like many people think the sounds of Lum1/Eu@n are too close for a twin-set. How would you feel about Lumia and Euan, with Lumi as the nickname for Lumia? Would that be better (since their names would seem more obviously different) or equally similar (since Lumia would probably go by Lumi on a routine basis)?
Euan and Lumi isn’t too similar
Euan and Lumia is better than Euan and Lumi
Euan and Lumia is equally similar to Euan and Lumi (which is still too similar)
Not too similar! The sounds are different enough and they also feel like such different names stylistically that it works. (they don’t clash though, especially considering O’s full name.)
I agree with others that it’s more about [name_m]Euan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] being slightly awkward - [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] & Eumi, [name_m]Euan[/name_m] & [name_m]Luan[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] & [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] or [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] & [name_m]Evren[/name_m] would sound better, for eg.
0leander is such a cool name! I adore the nickname O||ie. Your nephew has a very handsome name.
0llie, [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! and Eu@n are not extremely similar, but they share various sounds. Since, 0llie is a nickname, I don’t think the similarity with [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! is problematic. I also believe that adding an ‘A’ to [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! won’t make a significant difference, as the intention is to call her [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! anyway. [name_f]My[/name_f] advice for your family is to register the name you’ll be using daily. What name do your sister and her partner truly love? Would Lum|a be just a formal version, or would your family occasionally call her Lum|a as well? Honestly, I think that changing [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! to Lum!a connects the twins names even more because the short names share a letter in that case. To my ears, [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! and Eu@n are a better match than Lumi@ and Eu@n. The original pair sounds more distinct, in my opinion.
Anyway, here are some more alternatives to Lum|:
[name_f]Lupine[/name_f]
[name_f]Undine[/name_f]
[name_f]Rumi[/name_f]

As a name nerd, I adore the uniquess of the set that is being considered, but I also feel that each name has a very different style and vibe. I like the sutle nature theme, but 0leander is a rare choice, while [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! and Eu@n are popular names in different countries and distinct languages.
If your sister is still accepting new ideas, or middle name suggestions, maybe she could consider:

I think Oll!e and [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! are adorable together! I don’t find them too similar at all. I also don’t find [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! and Euan/Ewan too similar, either - although I feel that [name_m]Euan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lumia[/name_f] are equally similar to [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! and [name_m]Euan[/name_m].
There’s [name_f]Lumina[/name_f], too, if she’s truly worried about Lum!? I think just [name_m]Lum[/name_m]! is fine, though.
I don’t think [name_m]Ollie[/name_m] and [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] or [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] and [name_m]Euan[/name_m] are too similar. I love this as a sibset! I kind of wish [name_m]Oleander[/name_m] was just (legally) [name_m]Ollie[/name_m], because it works better as a set, so my only critic would be that [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] and [name_m]Euan[/name_m] are very short next to [name_m]Oleander[/name_m], which I personally don’t like (I’m big on patterns); however, they are all great names!
[name_m]Euan[/name_m] is an honor name for her, and I think she wants the twin’s names to be somewhat similar in length, but I’ll certainly pass on all your excellent suggestions!
