So, I’m not pregnant but I’m just thinking about the future. I’ve always loved the name [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], and it’s the name of a family friend I’d like to honor. I know it’s a completely normal name, but I feel it’s become a stereotypical ‘mean girl’ name, but I don’t have that association at all, I’ve met several Brittany’s and they’ve all been lovely. What type of person do you think of when you hear [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]?
I’ve also been really liking [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] lately. I think it’s great, has so many nickname options, and is an alternative to [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] because I think those are getting more and more popular. And I really don’t think there is anything wrong with it except… [name_u]Harry[/name_u] Pottter, [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] Lestrange. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though she is one of my favorite characters from any series, she was a horrible murderous psychopath. So, what do you think of [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]?
Thanks!
I like the name [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] a lot, actually! I do think it’s a little dated, but personally I like dated names so I don’t have a problem with that. I see why it might come across as a ‘mean girl’ name due to a few pop culture examples, but I don’t think that’s the case. It sounds bubbly and friendly to me, and [name_u]Britt[/name_u] is such a sweet nickname.
I don’t like [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], personally. I associate it too strongly with the character, and as you said, she certainly wasn’t a good person. Part of my dislike may be that I don’t like Beatrix/Beatrice either, or [name_f]Bella[/name_f], so it’s not my style in general. But I think the pop culture association here might be a little too strong, at least for a first name.

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] and [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] would be amazing twin names. The latter I’d say is tainted by people with deathly hallows tattoos and hogwarts houses on their job resume. Id steer free of naming your kid anything from a popular book series that is a unique name. It just is kind of cringey

I don’t care much for [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] to be honest with you. But I don’t see why it wouldn’t be usable.
I actually really like [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]. I don’t know nor car about the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association. Not to big deal to me. [name_u]Or[/name_u] at least personally.

-I think of a sweet, preppy, and popular girl! I know a few Brittany’s myself and they’re lovely. If you think [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] sounds too “pretentious”, you could also try [name_u]Britton[/name_u].
-I think [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is just as usable as it’s alternative, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I wouldn’t worry too much about associations with the HP series. People will learn to associate the name with your child not a movie.

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] is sparky and sweet and I think it’s totally usable!!
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is a bold choice but nn [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] ground it

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] looks like a completely fine name to me, not a mean girl-ish one.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is fine if you don’t dislike the character imo

Honestly, for [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], I don’t think of anything immediately, but if you don’t feel comfortable using it for a first name, you could always make it a middle name
For [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], I personally think that the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] is very large and popular, and you would get the association, but people get over associations like that with time. The name is very cute with pretty nicknames and I think you should go for it. (Bellatrix is one of my favorite characters too!)

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] is really dated to me - I would not use it on that basis. I do like it fine on its own merits, but it’s more of a mom name now, at least where I live.
I’m not a [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] enthusiast so I don’t know anything about the character of [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] except that she’s a [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] character. I find the overall effect a bit too frilly or fantastical - I’d prefer to see [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u].

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] works wonderfully! I’m personally not a fan of [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] because of the character, but it could still work imo.

I don’t care for [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] so I never watched or read it. [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] seems usable to me. [name_u]Jack[/name_u] the Ripper and [name_m]Son[/name_m] of [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] [name_m]Borden[/name_m] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_m]Braun[/name_m] existed, but people are still named [name_u]Jack[/name_u], [name_u]Sam[/name_u], [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f], and [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
I don’t like [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] at all and think of Spears and mean girls. Sorry, but I teach.

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] is useable but recommend [name_u]Britt[/name_u] as a middle name to keep things modern as it’s a bit dated
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and astral related so they probably would get a lot of HP references. Bummer cause it is a fun name.

Brittany reminds me of Britney Spears (mostly her songs, so it reminds me of a nasally-sounding girl) and also Brittany S. Pierce from Glee, a character I absolutely adore, but who is named to be like Britney Spears, lol! I love the nickname Britt though, and I like it when characters call her that on Glee.
Bellatrix I only think of Harry Potter, and she’s so evil! I wouldn’t like to be a little girl growing up with that name… pretty much everyone knows Harry Potter, and that would just be so rough. I know a black cat named Bellatrix, and I think that’s pretty much the only way to use that name.

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] is fine, I see where the mean girl connection comes from but I think that’s the kind of thing that shouldn’t stop us from using names we love.
With [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] I’m torn, my first instinct was no, definitely not. [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] Lestrange is a horrible person and the [name_f]Bella[/name_f] part (possibly) meaning “war” doesn’t help either. But also she’s just one character from a single story, so it seems a bit much to say she made the name unusable always forever. I really don’t know.
