Are Caspar or Quentin too unusual/weird for me to use

In the UK.

I wouldn’t want them to be like : ‘why did you call me this!!’ I have already ruled out ambrose because i think it sounds too much like a older person’s name, although it would probably work in wales or ireland.

I love both [name]Caspar[/name] and [name]Quentin[/name]. I would love to meet a little British [name]Caspar[/name] or [name]Quentin[/name]!

I think the names are both usable. Nonetheless, they both have associations for me. For [name]Caspar[/name], I can’t see past [name]Casper[/name] the “friendly ghost,” and for [name]Quentin[/name], it reminds me of the super high-security prison called San [name]Quentin[/name]. [name]Even[/name] so, I really like the name [name]Quentin[/name].

I like both and think they are very usable, familiar but unusual. [name]Casper[/name] is getting more popular in the UK due to Polish immigrants, both are quite posh to my ear, similar to [name]Piers[/name], [name]Guy[/name] and [name]Balthazar[/name]…

Interesting thread because…

I adore the name [name]Caspar[/name], and it is becoming quite popular (that’s a bad thing for me, but your future son certainly shouldn’t feel he has a weird name).

But…

I hate the name [name]Quentin[/name] and feel it might need a bit more explaining, because it is less common and has a very posh vibe. Having said that, I am all for unusual and old-fashioned names, and the only [name]Quentin[/name] I can think of is the excellent illustrator [name]Quentin[/name] [name]Blake[/name] (see [name]Roald[/name] Dahl books).

I would go for it!

I don’t think either should be a problem here, definitely not in [name]London[/name] or south [name]England[/name]. Neither are popular, but heard of. [name]Jasper[/name] is getting pop, and [name]Caspar[/name] is quite close to this. [name]Quentin[/name] is my favourite though, most children in the U.K. will be familiar with this name due to the [name]Roald[/name] Dahl books, and [name]Quentin[/name] [name]Blake[/name]'s other excellent work, and then there’s the fabulous [name]Quentin[/name] [name]Tarantino[/name] which is a cool and badass namesake for a teenage boy.

I think your right, although their ‘just’ on the edge of too weird/bad old fashioned i think they are acceptable to use in the UK(probably not anywhere else, except maybe caspar in germany) and would probably work without causing the child any hardship. thanks ottilie.

[name]Caspar[/name] and [name]Quentin[/name] are definitely usable! I say go for it, they’re both great names.

[name]Caspar[/name] and [name]Quentin[/name] are both great names, and they both have a British air about them. I think they work.

I adore [name]Caspar[/name] (although prefer the spelling [name]Casper[/name])! It’s out for us because we’re already planning to use [name]Balthazar[/name] for our first son’s middle name (and hubby didn’t care much for it anyway), but I would love to see somebody else use it. [name]Quentin[/name] is pretty cool, too. [name]Both[/name] are definitely useable.

I really like [name]Quentin[/name]. I think of [name]Quentin[/name] Compson from [name]Faulkner[/name]'s The Sound and the Fury. [name]Even[/name] though he wasn’t quite the happiest person ever, I have a fondness for him that I actually think is somewhat thanks to his name.

So many name berries recommended [name]Quentin[/name] to me when I was looking for a name to go with finley…bc it’s unusual enough but very cool. Now it is a top contender. I’m in the US so I’m not sure how it fits in the UK…although I imagine ppl are pretty open to different names in the UK. So far, my family nd friends seem to like it! Another qu name is [name]Quincy[/name].

I have a rabbit called [name]Casper[/name] so I really like this name. But I find [name]Quentin[/name] a old persons name.

We’re in the UK have a 7 year old [name]Quentin[/name]. It seems to be becoming a little more popular, but he’s still the only one in his primary school. We generally get positive comments and most kids are familiar with the name due to [name]Quentin[/name] [name]Blake[/name] (or [name]Tarantino[/name]!).

[name]Casper[/name] is nice too but reminds me of a [name]Kasper[/name], a german ‘clown’ (or the friendly ghost).

[name]Quentin[/name] Yes
[name]Casper[/name] No

I love [name]Quentin[/name]. I don’t think it has a particularly upscale vibe where I’m from ([name]East[/name] Coast USA) but is more across-the-board uncommon but not wacky. I’ve known a couple working-class Quentins. It’s a bit less taken-over-by-girls than [name]Quinn[/name] is, too.

I really REALLY dislike [name]Casper[/name] though I like [name]Jasper[/name].

I like both :), [name]Caspar[/name] was on our list. [name]Quentin[/name] is lovely too.

I adore [name]Caspar[/name], and while [name]Quentin[/name] is nms I think its definitly usable.
