Are Ella and/or Eloise considered classics???

[name]Just[/name] wondering thoughts on these two. Are they classics??

I consider [name]Ella[/name] to be a classic.

I like to think of [name]Eloise[/name] as more of a vintage gem. I’m not sure it’s widely used or recognised enough to be what most people would consider a classic.

I would say that both are ‘modern classics’ in the sense that they have history and weight behind them (as opposed to [name]Jayden[/name] or [name]Kaylee[/name]), but they’re not classics in the same sense that names like [name]Anne[/name] and [name]James[/name] are.

Not in my mind, [name]Eloise[/name] is more vintage & [name]Ella[/name] is too nicknamey and too tied to the last decade or so. But I am very strict on what constitutes a ‘classic’ name.

I think [name]Ella[/name] is more of a modern classic than [name]Eloise[/name]. It’s too close to call if [name]Eloise[/name] is a modern classic or not. It’s rising in popularity, but not popular enough to be considered a modern classic in my opinion. Upswing [name]Baby[/name] Names has a good article on this: http://upswingbabynames.com/2012/08/the-classic-baby-name-myth/

I would say [name]Ella[/name] was a modern classic and [name]Eloise[/name] was more vintage.

I guess it depends on what you consider classic. I consider a name to be classic when it has been used consistently for over a 100 years. [name]Both[/name] [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] have had some dramatic ups and downs over the past century. They seem to be more susceptible to trends. I don’t think I would consider them classic.

Thanks for the input… I am more along the lines of [name]Ella[/name] falling in as a modern classic, with [name]Eloise[/name] being more vintage (I adore [name]Eloise[/name]!)… I guess in my mind a true classic is like:
[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] and so forth. I was just interested to hear other’s opinions on the topic.
