Are the initials MMR problematic?

I am considering a name that would lead to the initials MMR and today I realized that’s the abbreviation for the measles, mumps & rubella vaccine that are given together! Is this a deal breaker or something that no one would ever think of?

No one will ever think of that  plus you don’t see initials that often.

I immediately noticed it, but I was a nursing student and had to deal with all sorts of abbreviations and terms. I don’t think many would even blink at that. Now if your daughter was [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] [name_u]Stacy[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m], then you might have an issue.

It took me a minute to even figure out why they would be problematic when I read the title of your thread, so I think you’re good. haha

No, I don’t think it’s a problem.

I once met a kid with the initials KKK… he happened to be blonde, can’t remember his eye color, sweet kid, unfortunate initials. He just said “yeah…my parents weren’t thinking.” That is the worst I’ve ever come across. MMR is not that bad, usually only someone in the medical field will that possibly trigger that thought, but you rarely see initials written out. It’s the name that counts. With the other exception of the ASS initials. A boyfriend I had long ago had a last name beginning with an S. I loved names that began with A and he wanted the middle name [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]. We were definitely a doomed and incompatible couple, lol.

I think MMR is fine. (As long as it doesn’t bother you). I think the big time where initials are a problem is when you are in school and it can create teasing potential. By the time most people realize what MMR stands for they are becoming parents (or healthcare professionals) themselves and the teasing thing is no longer an issue. (Well ASS or KKK would always be problematic.)

I’m sure it’s fine!
No one will think of that, I for sure didn’t

I don’t think it’s a problem! Most of the time when it’s initials it’s first and last so just MR, and most people wouldn’t even realized the MMR reference. I’m also a nursing student, so I noticed it right away, but I don’t think it’s a big deal.

I would still use a name I loved

I’m not in the medical field but know what MMR is and thought of it because we had to do the shots in elementary school. I only noticed because you spelled them out though, if I met someone with a name that had the initials MMR it wouldn’t cross my mind at all. When you meet someone, how often does your mind jump to “their initials are XXX”, innocuous or not? Plus, most people won’t know your child’s middle name, and you tell them they’ll probably forget quickly (this has happened to me a lot).

Not at all! Most people think of measles, mumps, and rubella only a handful of times, and initials are hardly used anyway.

No, I don’t think it would matter.

Not a problem.

I don’t recognize it at all, don’t worry!
