I’ve really started to warm up to [name_f]Mary[/name_f], I think it’s so pretty and girly, easy to pronounce, easy to spell, and it’s just so… I dunno, vintage?
Are there any ‘plain’ names you guys really like or are warming up to? (Think [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], etc…)
I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I also like [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], and some others that could be considered common or plain. Some of them are just lovely, timeless classics.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] isn’t a bad name, but I’ve got bad associations too. I knew a lot of [name_f]Mary[/name_f]'s in a lot of generations. If you go with it I think it’d be a decent choice.
I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] feels “plain” though, as it’s rather uncommon now. To me, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is very feminine, but not frilly. Perhaps that’s what you mean? Regardless, I am seriously considering using [name_f]Jane[/name_f] someday, she’s tied for #1 on the top of my short list. I love her classic simplicity.
I don’t really see the previous names listed as “plain”. Old-fashioned, yes. But not plain! A plain name that I like is [name_f]Amy[/name_f]. She’s just always kinda floating around. Nothing very distinguishing about her but still pretty.
Haha, my name is [name_f]Marta[/name_f]!
I really like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f] & cannot remember more at this time.
[name_f]Anne[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are way up there for me! And [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Susan[/name_f] as well. I feel like a girl can inject so much of her own personality into these names - sturdy or spirited or girly - and you can do so much with middles!
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: just saw [name_f]Amy[/name_f] upthread. Yes, [name_f]Amy[/name_f] too!
[name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] all come to mind.
I like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] but I wouldn’t call them “plain”. I’ll use the term “no-frills” because there’s beauty in simplicity if you take a closer look.
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is my absolute favorite name, I started to love it when I realized that it was a sort of combination of both my husband’s mom and my mom’s names and just adore the sweet simplicity (although I do worry about it being too plain).
I also like [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], but I don’t feel it is as plain. I have started to really love [name_f]Faye[/name_f] also.
I dislike [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
I like/love…
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
There’s something so charming and appealing about these names,
I love love love [name_f]Mary[/name_f]- the only [name_f]Mary[/name_f] I’ve known was super bubbly, sweet and spunky, so I definitely have good associations with the name. Plus, it is a family name (I think it is a family name for 90% of the population).
Yes, I like some of the names that others find a bit plain. [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Marie[/name_f] has always been a fave. The popular middles are so lovely as firsts. [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_f]May[/name_f], etc.
I love love [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but my mom thinks it’s very plain. Other plain names I like are [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and even [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is kind of growing on me.
