There are plenty of Greek [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] names on little girls nowadays; [name_f]Athena[/name_f], [name_u]Demeter[/name_u] ([name_f]Demetria[/name_f]), and of course my favorite, [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. I’m a little curious about Greek God names for little boys? I can’t imagine a little Hephaestus or [name_m]Zeus[/name_m] running around. What do you think? Can any Greek God names be used on boys? I think [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] can pass, maybe.
[name_m]Hermes[/name_m] might be cool.
It sounds too close to the STD for me to consider.
EDIT: Seems like I’ve been pronouncing Hermes wrong for like 5 years. Oops at me. It still looked too close to the STD for me to use though.
[name_m]Helios[/name_m], [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], Perses, Alastor
I like [name_m]Ares[/name_m]…at least the sound of it. Ariston was a Spartan ruler…close enough? Or [name_m]Hercules[/name_m] would be cool…1/2 god.
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] isn’t a god but it’s a good name. Same for [name_m]Heracles[/name_m], [name_m]Perseus[/name_m].
Chiron was a centaur, I think the name has potential.
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m], [name_m]Ares[/name_m], [name_m]Zeus[/name_m] are the usable god names I think.
I haven’t met any personally, but I think [name_u]Mars[/name_u] is on the rise. Whilst [name_u]Mars[/name_u] is [name_m]Roman[/name_m], I think Greek [name_m]Ares[/name_m] could work in the same way.
Of course!! My standards are a bit more complex than most, but these are usable [name_f]IMO[/name_f]…
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m], [name_m]Ares[/name_m], Hypnos, Pontos, Leto, [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], Triton, Aether, Aeolus, Chryson, Nikon
My problem with [name_m]Ares[/name_m] is that he’s the God of war, but considering my favorite girl name at the moment is [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], I feel like I’m being a hypocrite lol.
Maybe [name_m]Ares[/name_m]…I’m not really sure. There are variations of [name_m]Oceanus[/name_m] that could be used for a girl - [name_f]Oceane[/name_f], [name_f]Oceana[/name_f], and the unisex [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]. [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]/[name_m]Castor[/name_m] are names from Greek mythology. I think. [name_m]Nestor[/name_m] is a character from The Odyssey. Maybe [name_m]Cadmus[/name_m]. [name_u]Orion[/name_u], [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] and [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] are options. [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] isn’t exactly a Greek deity, but it’s from Greek mythology. [name_m]Eryx[/name_m] is similar to [name_m]Eric[/name_m], but a bit out there.
I love [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] for a boy. I also agree that [name_m]Hermes[/name_m] could work. Hephaestus might work as a middle name.
These are [name_m]Roman[/name_m], but I think [name_m]Bacchus[/name_m] and [name_m]Eros[/name_m] are usable.
Oooo, I like [name_m]Eros[/name_m].
[name_m]Eros[/name_m] is Greek and the son of the goddess [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. He was the incarnation of sexual love and was responsible for targeting people with his magic arrows (that’s where cupid comes from)… but history has proven that [name_m]Eros[/name_m]’ influence isn’t all romance. With love also came hate and the two always walked hand in hand.
I would suggest the name [name_m]Helios[/name_m] for a boy. [name_m]Helios[/name_m] was the sun god (as well as [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]) and was the brother of [name_f]Eos[/name_f] ([name_f]Dawn[/name_f]) and [name_f]Selene[/name_f] (the [name_f]Moon[/name_f]). [name_m]Helios[/name_m] is a very beautiful name, unique but not completely strange or unfamiliar. It’s easy to spell and pronounce and in my honest opinion has a much more positive meaning and significance than [name_m]Ares[/name_m] (god of war), [name_m]Poseidon[/name_m] (god of the sea and of earthquakes), [name_m]Eros[/name_m], [name_m]Zeus[/name_m], Hephaestus (too difficult to spell and pronounce), Hades and so forth.
Other Greek names for boys that don’t necessarily relate to deities but are present in literature as well as myths are:
[name_u]Orion[/name_u] (a constellation)
[name_m]Theseus[/name_m]
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m]
[name_m]Hector[/name_m]
[name_m]Priam[/name_m] (Pree-um)
[name_m]Achilles[/name_m]
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]
[name_m]Odysseus[/name_m] (same guy as [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m])
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
Spyros
Ptolomy
Agenor
[name_m]Ajax[/name_m]
Argos
Ariston
Cadmo/[name_m]Cadmus[/name_m]
[name_m]Castor[/name_m]
[name_m]Cassiel[/name_m]
[name_m]Damon[/name_m]
Dyonisius
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
[name_m]Eneas[/name_m]/[name_m]Aeneas[/name_m]
[name_m]Homer[/name_m]
[name_m]Icarus[/name_m]
[name_m]Oedipus[/name_m]
[name_m]Jason[/name_m]
Laertes
Telemachus
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]
Linos/[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Nestor[/name_m]
[name_m]Oceanus[/name_m]
[name_m]Orpheus[/name_m]
[name_m]Aristotle[/name_m]
[name_m]Plato[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
etc…
I’ve included Greek [name_m]Titan[/name_m]'s, personifications, mythological creatures, general characters in Greek myth, etc. too:
[name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Apollo[/name_m], [name_m]Ares[/name_m], [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], [name_m]Oceanus[/name_m], [name_m]Nereus[/name_m], Crius, Coeus, [name_m]Helios[/name_m], [name_f]Pallas[/name_f], Perses, [name_u]Orion[/name_u], Agon, Aidos, Caerus, Corus, Gelos, Geras, Zelos, Soter, Aphros, Ladon, Mylas, [name_m]Damon[/name_m], Chryson, Makelo, Comus, [name_f]Lethe[/name_f], Matton, [name_m]Hector[/name_m], [name_m]Jason[/name_m], [name_m]Theseus[/name_m], [name_m]Perseus[/name_m], Abas, Ilus, Aleus, [name_m]Myles[/name_m], Phineus.
These are female names, but I think they could work:
Brizo, Ceto, Alecto, Arke, Thallo, Theros, Iaso, Enyo, Arche, [name_u]Calypso[/name_u], Ino, Leto, [name_f]Niobe[/name_f], [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f].
Yes, my correction.
[name_m]Eros[/name_m] = Greek
[name_m]Cupid[/name_m] = [name_m]Roman[/name_m]
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m] is one of my favorite boy names!
I like Triton as well.
