For example, I love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] but dislike the [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] & [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] connection.
Hmmm, toughie!
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]- my SO’s favourite name ever is [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]. I have a cousin-down-the-line named [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], so I’m kind of conflicted about it. If I were equally in love with it, I wouldn’t care, but I’m not as keen on it as he is so… eeh, I don’t know. I keep trying to come around to it for his benefit.
[name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]- it’s so religious, and I’m an atheist. It sounds so badass though!
[name_m]Gorka[/name_m]- holy moly, I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Gorka[/name_m], but I fully acknowledge that it sounds ridiculous and hilarious and so unattractive to English ears… I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] IT though. I’m not sure what to do with myself. I have so many good associations for [name_m]Gorka[/name_m] too sigh
[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]- such a hot name for a guy, and I love the nn [name_m]Mack[/name_m]… too bad it’s my ex’s name Lame! I loved it before he and I met, too.
I quite like [name_f]Mallory[/name_f], but the meaning bugs me.
I love the nn [name_f]Zibby[/name_f], but [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s meaning is a bit problematic because I’m an atheist. I will probably find another way to get to [name_f]Zibby[/name_f] instead.
And I like [name_f]Christine[/name_f] because it’s my mother’s name (thus I would only use it as a middle anyway), but again a bit too religious. Thus I’ll likely go with Chrysanthe instead.
I like [name_f]Judith[/name_f]. But the nn [name_f]Judy[/name_f], which also conveniently happens to be my aunt’s name, is really dated and besides I like it much less.
I have [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] on my list, but I will never ever use [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. I know it’s very close but I’d love to minimize the tragic [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] & [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] connection. On the other hand, the name honours my mom.
My love-hate relationship:
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - even I’m surprise I put this one. I love [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], but I never celebrate [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] myself. So I guess it’ll be weird if I use this, not that I actually hate it though…
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] - One of my most favourite name ever. I lovelovelove [name_f]Belle[/name_f] but I want to avoid [name_f]Bella[/name_f]…
[name_f]Narcissa[/name_f] - the narcissistic disorder connection, of course.
[name_m]Icarus[/name_m] - I love the name but not the mythological story.
That’s all I can think for now.
There are some names that sound so glamorous to me ([name_f]Capucine[/name_f], [name_f]Celestia[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] especially) but that I think ultimately would sound kind of awkward on a real child.
I also adore [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] but think that she would inevitably get nicknamed [name_u]Clem[/name_u], which sounds too much like phlegm for me.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]-some days I love them, but they are so no my style!
Some days I love these name but then I’m reminded of some obstacle that keeps them from my list.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] - It’s exactly what I like in a girl’s name. But there’s [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] Lestrange, which makes the name unpalatable to me.
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] - Beautifully feminine but attached to [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]'s misdeeds in the Arthurian legends.
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] - Funky-cool name but marred in the US by racial stereotyping.
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - Like the full name but dislike [name_u]Clem[/name_u] as a nn. Also, the associated song gives it an unfortunate tinge of sadness.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - I should love this name, but I knew a really negative person with the name.
[name_m]Remus[/name_m] - See [name_f]Jemima[/name_f].
[name_m]Jethro[/name_m] - I like the quirkiness of it, but I’m not sure if it still has the taint of The [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] Hillbillies.
[name_u]Noah[/name_u] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] it but find the popularity off-putting.
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] the sound but I have a negative association with the name. It’s a shame, because it’s a family name.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] - See above and multiply by 100.
Boys:
[name_u]August[/name_u]- I love the full name, but hate [name_u]Gus[/name_u] or Auggie as a nickname
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]- I’m afraid someone will pronounce this like “body”
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]- [name_f]Adore[/name_f] this name, but popularity turns me off
[name_m]Jackson[/name_m]- See [name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]- I’m afraid people would this this is too girly
Girls:
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Madalynn[/name_f]- [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t care for the nn [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f]- See [name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]- Shrek
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]- [name_f]Hurricane[/name_f]
Zayn-- too much association with One Direction
[name_m]Judson[/name_m]-- I love it, but I don’t want the association with [name_m]Judd[/name_m] family.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]-- [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I mention it to another person, they have to bring up Shrek…
[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]-- I go back and forth constantly on this one, I can’t decide if I like it or not!
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. I think it’s beautiful but it means blind.
Yup! The names in question are [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are lovely, they aren’t too popular, and they have that vintage flavor I look for in a name. But at the same time, something about [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I like them, but I can’t think about them for too long. I have no idea why. I’ve never heard of an awful [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I want to like it, the flower imagery, the sound. But I already have a dislike-HATE relationship with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_m]Buchanan[/name_m] from the Great [name_m]Gatsby[/name_m], which makes me dislike the name because [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] was such a terrible character (but I want to like it because The Great [name_m]Gatsby[/name_m] is my favorite book) and [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] from the [name_m]Mario[/name_m] video games doesn’t help.
