Are they way too weird?

So, I’m working on a fantasy book. A basic teenagers against bad government type of book.

Anyways. Everything is clear, other than the names. I’ve been thinking about the names for the past 2 weeks. I think they are pretty good and unique but I worry that they could be a little too “unique”.

The names are [name_u]Saar[/name_u] (for a girl) and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] (For a boy).

DESCRIPTIONS:
[name_u]Saar[/name_u]: Tall, tan, black hair and brown eyes. Has 4 sisters and her Dad died couple years ago. One of her sisters hates her and because of that she thinks that her other sisters hate her too.

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]: Again, tall, tan, black hair and heterochromia eyes(blue/green) Has a brother who is older than him and a sister who is younger than him. His dad is also dead.

I also want to hear your opinions about the pronounciations. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and [name_u]Saar[/name_u]? (I really wonder how do you pronounce the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] because English isn’t my main language and i have absolutely no idea about which way is the right way to pronounce [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. But I love the name!) Are they too weird even for a fantasy book?

Btw, if you’ll suggest names let me list you some names I used on the novel. Because here is the thing, names have to be unique. In the story only the ones who are noble can use names like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]. If you look at tye list and then suggest that would be great!

[name_f]Aliki[/name_f]
[name_m]Kiran[/name_m]
[name_m]Prosper[/name_m]
[name_f]Alles[/name_f]
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m]
[name_f]Baja[/name_f]
[name_m]Lavro[/name_m]
[name_f]Rima[/name_f]
[name_m]Iker[/name_m]
[name_u]Akira[/name_u]
Ea

[name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to suggest names for the siblings too!

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is pronounced REESS, and I would say [name_u]Saar[/name_u] just as it looks.

I think both would work really well as fantasy character names, though they do sound like they’re from very different languages (which they are). The only thing I would say is that there is a pretty popular YA fantasy series with a main character called [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] that fits your [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]'s physical description almost exactly. That would put me off personally, but it’s up to you.

Thank you for taking your time to comment! Yeah origins of their names are different because they are ethnically different. But story takes place in a post-apocalyptic-ish(not really but i hope you’re getting the point) place and people really don’t care about the ethnicity.

I’m guessing that you’re implying to [name_m]Court[/name_m] of Thorns and Roses. [name_u]Truth[/name_u] to be told, I didn’t read it but one of my friends said the same thing but she also said his name was something longer and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is his nickname, so I really don’t know. I really like the name but if it remindes a lot of people about the other [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], I will change it.

Again, thank you so much for comment!

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is pronounced like [name_u]Reese[/name_u] so I would say it like that.

I’d say [name_u]Saar[/name_u] rhyming with “car”.

ETA: I’ve never seen [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] in a YA novel that I can remember. I haven’t read A [name_m]Court[/name_m] of Thorns and Roses (well I read the first 50 pages of the first book) so I don’t have any other associations with the name.

I haven’t read the [name_m]Court[/name_m] of [name_m]Thorn[/name_m] and Roses, too!

I’ve heard the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] in the TV show Torchwood and absolutely fell in love with it. I’ve always wanted to name my main male character [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] but it never felt… right? But in this character I feel like he is definitely a [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], like he fits in the image of a [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] in my mind. And, real names are limited. Like, we have to get used to hear names again and again. But people tend to be like:

One of the characters name is [name_m]Harry[/name_m]
“OMGGGGG IS THIS [name_m]HARRY[/name_m] AS IN [name_m]HARRY[/name_m] [name_m]POTTER[/name_m]?”
HAVE YOU [name_u]READ[/name_u] [name_m]HARRY[/name_m] [name_m]POTTER[/name_m]"
I CANT BE THE ONLY ONE WHO IMMEDIATLY THOUGHT ABOUT [name_m]HARRY[/name_m] [name_m]POTTER[/name_m], RIGHT?"

Like, stop, [name_f]Carol[/name_f]. Everyone can name their character [name_m]Harry[/name_m] or [name_u]Percy[/name_u].

God. I talk a lot. Thank you so much for your comment, tho!
