We waited until our daughter was born to choose her name. In [name_u]California[/name_u] you only have 5 days once they are born to decide. We had a few favs that we couldn’t use for various reasons and narrowed our final two down to [name_f]Aria[/name_f] Or [name_f]Lila[/name_f] ([name_u]Ruby[/name_u] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a middle name) I had names I loved that I just couldn’t convince my husband on for first names including [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u].
Ultimately we chose [name_f]Aria[/name_f] mostly because we were out of time and had to decide and loved the meaning in Hebrew - [name_m]Lion[/name_m].
However, I wasn’t fully sold and doubted our choice from the get go. [name_u]Ever[/name_u] since, I have thought about LILA. I do really like the name aria and think it’s very pretty. [name_f]My[/name_f] main concern is if it’s less timeless, classic, more of a fad etc than [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. our toddler is [name_u]Theo[/name_u]- a name I’m so happy with - classic but a bit different, beautiful meaning in Greek - gift from god.
Since we have been in a pandemic for months now [name_f]Aria[/name_f] has only interacted with us since she was 5 months old and mostly gets called [name_f]Sissy[/name_f] by her brother.
I still think about the name LILA 9 months in. They sound similar so she wouldn’t even notice. The easy solution would be to make [name_f]Lila[/name_f] her middle name and keep aria but I don’t think they go too well together. It’s a bit samey sounding. So ultimately do I go with my gut and change it to [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or keep [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and make something extra special like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] or [name_f]Lila[/name_f] her middle name (even though [name_f]Lila[/name_f] doesn’t flow)
Thoughts on changing name at 9 months
Is [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_f]Aria[/name_f] a prettier more classic timeless name (and if im questioning it her entire life so far is that my gut saying change it…)
If I keep Aria should I make her second name LILA, or the flow is off and I should make it Ruby or Lily
Will possibly have a 3rd child but can’t predict if it will be a boy or girl of course in terms of saving Lila for next baby.
I’d say keep [name_f]Aria[/name_f]. You might end up having another girl in the future and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] would be lovely as a little sister to [name_u]Theo[/name_u] & [name_f]Aria[/name_f].
So I think both names are lovely I do slightly prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f] over [name_f]Aria[/name_f] however I do think you need to really sit down and think about changing her name. Potentiality research how difficult changing your child’s name will be speak with your family and see what they think before going ahead with changing her. Wish you the best of luck
I’m sorry you’re having second thoughts about her name!
At nine months, I don’t think it’s too late to change it! I knew a girl who changed her name at 12, and she was perfectly happy with the change. She said her old name didn’t fit her, and that she didn’t regret a thing.
I also changed my name at a young-ish age, and am content with the decision. (Though it was for a different circumstance.)
At nine months, she probably wouldn’t care, so if you’re going to change it, do it now!
That saying, I prefer [name_f]Aria[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Aria[/name_f] as a fad at all! I get that it feels like a more modern name, but I still think it’s a classic. It has a beautiful musical connection, and as you said, [name_f]Aria[/name_f] has a wonderful meaning. To me, [name_f]Aria[/name_f] feels like a strong, elegantly timeless name!
I agree with @lucyxo though, if you ever had another girl, [name_f]Lila[/name_f] would be a great match to [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f]!
I love [name_f]Aria[/name_f]! It has such an elegant yet fun appeal to it. Although I also love [name_f]Lila[/name_f] I think [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is more suited to all ages. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] sounds lovely for a baby, toddler and child but I think [name_f]Aria[/name_f] would grow with your daughter better and feels a little more sophisticated! Also, L names are very common at the moment there are lots of [name_f]Lila[/name_f]’s, [name_f]Lily[/name_f]’s, [name_f]Louella[/name_f]’s and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]’s shortened to [name_f]Lila[/name_f] / [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] so [name_f]Aria[/name_f] stands out more to me.
I vote to keep [name_f]Aria[/name_f]! If I’m being honest, I think [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] are similar in terms of their trendiness so I think switching from [name_f]Aria[/name_f] to [name_f]Lila[/name_f] would be a step sideways. I actually think [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_f]Lila[/name_f] has a lovely, lilting flow to it, and it gives her the option of [name_f]Lila[/name_f] in the future.
I’m sure you’re feeling that way. Aria is a beautiful name. Musical, sweet and strong!
Honestly, I prefer Lila. It’s short, elegant, fresh and delicate. Both names are very popular nowadays, so I believe you will receive great feedbacks from the two names.
How do you feel about Aria Delilah or Aria Dalila? I think it would be a stunning alternative. Maybe Aria ______ Delilah/Dalila or Aria Delilah/Dalila ______ so that you can keep her original middle name (if she has one)?
Hi [name_f]Estrela[/name_f]. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and suggestions. So very appreciated. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]… I love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] so if anything I’d do that as her middle name. Or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as it’s quite similar to [name_f]Lila[/name_f].
I’ve thought about this for so long now - her whole life… I do love [name_f]Aria[/name_f] for how it sounds but it’s the associations with the name that make it possibly a little cheesy imo. If she was born today I would chose [name_f]Lila[/name_f] because I believe it’s classic sounding and timeless. It’s just so tricky once it’s already been her name you feel like you are somehow taking away part of her by changing it…
Thanks for your feedback. We call her [name_f]Lila[/name_f] sometimes because it’s her Hebrew name, she’s used to it so that’s not an issue. Additionally, they sound very similar so she wouldn’t notice or mind
Such a tough decision! I think it’s important for both parents to feel strongly about it in order to change the name. I love both [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] equally. Also the nickname [name_u]Ari[/name_u] for a girl does big things to my heart!
Thanks for your help! Ahhh I’m not a fan of [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. I actually love nicknames and theres not many with [name_f]Aria[/name_f] directly. I call her leo or lion because of the Hebrew meaning of her name.
Personally I think both [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] are beautiful names. I’m sorry you’re having doubts or regrets about your daughter’s name
I too struggled with the name chosen for our daughter from the day I came home from the hospital. I continually thought about the other names on our shortlist and considered legally changing her name or calling her by her middle name. But as time has gone on I feel the name we chose really suits her and I’m happy we chose it.
I don’t think its too late to change her name at 9 months if both you and your partner feel strongly about it. Keep us updated on what you decide.
It’s so hard.
I just want to love the name for my beautiful girl. And although I do like it I have doubts…
I love [name_f]Aria[/name_f] as a stand alone name when I think of it as her name, my baby but I hear it on blogs etc and find it tacky sometimes.
It’s so hard to change it though because I worry I might miss it ironically and also because it’s become representative of her and one feels like you are taking her identity by changing her name.
By the way I LOVE [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f]! They are such lovely names and together work so well. Good choices!
Personally, I like [name_f]Aria[/name_f] better and think you should keep it. It’s already your daughter’s name. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is a bit less of a fad name, but could often be pronounced [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]. [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] sounds lovely! Save [name_f]Lila[/name_f] for a possible #3.
Honestly the name [name_f]Lila[/name_f] seems more of a trendy name than [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is (to me). [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is just popular bc of the character from GoT. But I looked up the stats and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] was popular 1915-1937 (approximately) whereas [name_f]Aria[/name_f] was barely on the map.
Aria and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] go so well together. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] seems a little misplaced with [name_u]Theo[/name_u] but it does sound okay together.
I think changing her name at 9 months is ok. If you really hate [name_f]Aria[/name_f], then change it.
I would not make [name_f]Lila[/name_f] her middle name. [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_f]Lila[/name_f] doesn’t flow well and it’s too matchy matchy. Again if you really just can’t stand [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and hate telling people her name or calling her by her name, then change it.
So if this were me I’d keep [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and save [name_f]Lila[/name_f] for a third baby. [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_f]Aria[/name_f], and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] sound amazing together!
