People keep recommending [name]Arianne[/name] (pronounced ‘ah ree AN’) to me as a name for my 2nd daughter due in 4 weeks. Mainly I think the recommendation comes because my husband loves the name [name]Arielle[/name] but I’m not sold on it so [name]Arianne[/name] is a nice close alternative that we both like. I like [name]Arianna[/name] better than [name]Arielle[/name] but our 1st daughter is [name]Gianna[/name] so [name]Arianna[/name] is way too close as it rhymes with [name]Gianna[/name]. My husband loves [name]Arianna[/name] as well as [name]Arianne[/name]. However, my concern with [name]Arianne[/name] is that it seems a little too close to “[name]Aryan[/name]” (prounounced Airy-ohn or something similar to that) as in the [name]Aryan[/name] Brotherhood (a supposed Nazi/skinhead/White supremacist group).
What is your opinion? Is [name]Arianne[/name] too close to [name]Aryan[/name]? I would NEVER give my child a name that anyone would relate to the [name]Aryan[/name] Brotherhood.
Please help!!! Only 4 weeks to go and I don’t want to leave the hospital without a name for my daughter!
I didn’t even think of [name]Arianne[/name] being to close to [name]Aryan[/name] until you said that, mainly because [name]Arianne[/name] is pronounced with a different initial vowel sound and the accent is on the final syllable rather than the first. However, and this is a big however, I don’t think [name]Arianne[/name] is a good choice for you considering how close it is to [name]Gianna[/name]. I agree with you that [name]Arianna[/name] is definitely too close to [name]Gianna[/name], but I don’t think changing the final letter to an E helps much with that issue. Sorry!
I’d name [name]Gianna[/name]'s sister something more along the lines of [name]Alessia[/name], [name]Cara[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Leila[/name], [name]Lucia[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Sarita[/name], [name]Stella[/name], or [name]Valeria[/name], just for some ideas…
I don’t think it’s that close to [name]Aryan[/name]. [name]Arianne[/name] the French form of [name]Ariadne[/name], so there’s no connection to the word “[name]Aryan[/name]” whatsoever. Go ahead and use [name]Arianne[/name] if you like it.
Although I have heard of a baby named [name]Aryan[/name] [name]Justice[/name] whose parents were white supremacists. It really horrified me - why would anyone advertise their disgusting political beliefs on their kid’s name?

@decmama ---- What part of it is ignorant? Why are you judging me without even knowing where I’m coming from? I have a bi-racial child so the only thing IGNORANT is you and the judgement you have passed down upon me without even considering that I may want to protect an innocent child from possible future ridicule. That I may not want to use a name that may have possible association with something negative. When you Google [name]Arianne[/name] there are multiple references to other individuals who have also considered the affiliation with the [name]Aryan[/name] Brotherhood. In fact, just search for it here on Name [name]Berry[/name] and you’ll find reference to the same thing. It seems the only ignorant individual here is you!
i think you have a very valid concern. I recently met my first [name]Arianne[/name] and the first thing that came to mind was aryan. I agree with the others here- if you’re at all worried abut it I would say stay away from the name.
I have [name]Asian[/name] friends who names their daughters “[name]Arianne[/name]” or “[name]Arianna[/name]” . So I dont think you have a problem being connected to the [name]Aryan[/name] name.
