Ariella or Emilia

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Everyone,

I’m choosing between the names [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariella[/name_f].
I have loved [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] for years but since the rise in popularity of the name [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] I’m not as keen.
I recently came across the name [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] and the similar [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]. I have never met anyone with either of these names.

Our last name is [name_u]Barry[/name_u].

Any opinions appreciated!

I prefer [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] being a name already used for girls, the extra -la in [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] feels unnecesary to me. I think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is lovely, and I love [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], plus, it has the amazing Frozen connection.

I think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is lovely! I love the nickname potential with [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (which I think makes it different than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] which doesn’t lend itself to those nicknames). The question of popularity is a very personal one, that’s totally up to you. If you would have regrets not using the name, go for it! But if you love it and it would just really bother you, you could always use it as a middle name instead. [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] is also a lovely choice. It lends itself to the nickname [name_f]Ella[/name_f] so you could still use that name you like so much. The extra “la” doesn’t bother me at all. It reminds me of the name “[name_f]Arianna[/name_f]” but more unique because of the use of “l” instead of “n”. Other names I think are similar in sound or feel to [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]:
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] (you can use the nickname [name_f]Elle[/name_f])
Good luck!

I like [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] the best. You can use the nns [name_u]Arie[/name_u]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f]/[name_f]Aria[/name_f] for her.

I love [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]! I also second the suggestion of [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] might be a nice way to fit both names in.

I think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is gorgeous, it’s been a favourite of mine for a long time too. While I know some say it the same as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], to me [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is different and sounds different, and it’s not quite as common as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] leads to [name_f]Em[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] as nicknames, as well as [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. If you love it, definitely go for it, it’s a classic and beautiful choice.

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a gorgeous choice too, and [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] is pretty, and a good way to get [name_f]Ella[/name_f] if you’d love [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. While I really like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] too (it’s a family name) it has tipped over into the ‘too popular’ category for me, only because I literally see a handfuls of them under 5 at the moment. I’m generally not too worried about the popularity thing, but [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is an exception. Which is not to say don’t use it of course! That’s just my view on the name.

I think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_u]Barry[/name_u] has a gorgeous sound to it. All the best!

I love [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] are both on my own list too so for me it’s hard to choose. I’m not so sure what to think of the repeating ar-sound in [name_f]ARiella[/name_f] bARry though, so I’d prefer [name_f]Emilia[/name_f].
In terms of popularity, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is popular but not in the top 10, and names are much more diverse than they used to be anyway. If there would be an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or another [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] in your daughter’s class, they could always go by different nicknames to distinguish themselves: [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f].

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f], by a mile.

They’re both beautiful names. I prefer [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] because as others have said I love all the nickname options. [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] sounds a little Disney princess to me not that that’s bad.

[name_f]Ariella[/name_f] seems more popular than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] to me. Maybe because of all the spelling variations, all the other [name_f]Ella[/name_f] names, or just because I know an [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]. I have a friend with a five year old named [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] and they call her [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. It’s so cute on her and they both love her name. The name [name_u]Ari[/name_u] sounds like a middle eastern man’s name to me though.

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] has been a favorite of mine for a long time, so that would be my choice. I’ve never liked [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], and I like [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] even less. Also, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_u]Barry[/name_u] sounds better than [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] [name_u]Barry[/name_u].

I prefer [name_f]Ariella[/name_f], even though I liked [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] better.

I love [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], and that would be my choice.

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_u]Barry[/name_u], by a mile
