Artemas / Artemis for a boy?

[name_m]Art[/name_m] or [name_m]Artie[/name_m] as a nickname.
Middle would be [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m].
Brother to [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]

Thoughts? Husband came up with it on a whim. I love the name but always felt it leaned very girl.

ETA:

He also wants me to ask about Delius Asher, which he came up with on a whim right after I posted this. Lol

I love it! [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] would be my choice.

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is a goddess, so it would be very strange for me to meet a boy with that name.

I suggest [name_m]Aramis[/name_m]!

I love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], boy or girl! The [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] Fowl books provide a nice male namesake and the goddess herself represents the hunt, wilderness etc., which has often made her popular among men. I’ve always hated the double standard that its okay for girls to get boy’s names ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Alex[/name_u], etc) but not the other way around. [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] nn [name_m]Art[/name_m] sounds very masculine to me and I think it is lovely.

On the other hand, I’m not a fan of Delius [name_m]Asher[/name_m]. But [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is amazing.

I would use [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] or [name_m]Artemus[/name_m] for a boy. Gorgeous!

[name_m]Artemus[/name_m]/[name_m]Artemas[/name_m] is one of my favourite names for a boy, although if I get to name my kids what I want, I won’t be able to use it, since I also love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] for a girl haha. I would definitely stick to the [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] spelling, because, despite loving the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] Fowl books/character, I think the goddess association trumps it. Delius [name_m]Asher[/name_m] is nice, and avoids repeated initials, but I would still choose [name_m]Artemas[/name_m]. It has a certain intelligence about it, and I just love the sound, feel, and everything about him.

Like [name_m]Artemus[/name_m] but can’t quite get on board with Delius - largely because haven’t heard of it but I’m just not attracted to [name_m]Deli[/name_m] part of the name. I think [name_m]Artemus[/name_m]/as is cool but recall some better matches for [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] if that’s important — I personally don’t think sibset matching is as important as single names you love (and that won’t burden the kid)!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a quick note to say that we are leaning towards these spellings after some research:

[name_m]Artemus[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
Delios [name_m]Asher[/name_m]

While the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] spelling is associated with the goddess, I think modernly many people regard [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] as a boy name because of the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] Fowl books.

So you can get away with the -is ending for a boy if you prefer it, though it is traditionally the feminine spelling.

As for the masc spellings, I like [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] best.

This one is so tricky. Because on the one hand, it would be such a perfect boy name and if I didn’t have certain reservations about it I’d use it in a heartbeat on a boy. I love the idea of naming a boy after a goddess, but I know that most people would think it’s weird and make mean comments and just generally ruin the whole thing. (People name their daughters after men all the time, but give a feminine name to a boy (even one that doesn’t sound feminine at all!) and people just can’t handle it. Sigh.)

Then there’s [name_m]Artemus[/name_m] and [name_m]Artemas[/name_m], which are options, but I wonder if people would think his parents just didn’t spell [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] correctly. I want to say those would work, and you should use one of them if you’re brave (I don’t have a preference on which one), but I don’t know if I’d personally be brave enough to do so. There’s always going to be someone who assumes that he’s named after the goddess and that his name is just spelled wrong.

I’m not fond of Delius [name_m]Asher[/name_m] at all, sorry.

I love [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] for a boy, though I love [name_m]Artemus[/name_m] even more. Not a huge fan of Delius.
I’m Greek and I feel a bit weird about [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] as a male name. I’m not saying it’s offensive, it just seems wrong.

I would use [name_m]Artemus[/name_m]! Great name

Not a fan of Delius, but I love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (and the nn [name_m]Art[/name_m]). I do realize that [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] is the male version, but they seem to be pronounced the same. I prefer the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] spelling. If girls can be named [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u], or [name_u]Logan[/name_u] why can’t a boy share a name with a mythical female?

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: [name_m]Just[/name_m] seeing that you’ve decided on the [name_m]Artemus[/name_m] spelling. The combo is great regardless.

Not a fan. Sounds pretentious.

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] doesn’t lean female; it is female.

[name_m]Artemas[/name_m], I’m not sure which way it leans.

I like it, and I’ve heard of men being named [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]. It doesn’t sound particularly feminine, and I don’t see why there’d be anything wrong with giving it to a boy, especially considering how many girls are given traditionally masculine names.

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] sounds amazing!!

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is really nice, it’s a classical name and the most common spelling (so there would be less confusion when verbally giving the child’s name to someone).
Besides, the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] spelling is used in [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] Colfer’s novels “[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] Fowl”, which is an absolutely amazing series, and it’s always easier to imagine yourself in a novel when the character shares your name.

I love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] for a boy! I’m a huge fan of the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] Fowl books. I wouldn’t suggest spelling it as [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] or [name_m]Artemus[/name_m], as that just seems like it’s spelled wrong. I love, love, [name_u]LOVE[/name_u], the nickname [name_m]Artie[/name_m]! Great choice!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to pop in and say we are still really liking the name and leaning back toward [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] as the spelling.

I’d love some opinions on [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] ([name_f]Aggie[/name_f]) and [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] ([name_m]Artie[/name_m]) as a sibling combo. We keep trying to lean away from A names and accidentally stumble toward them again, lol.
