Artemis or Nausicaa

I’ve always seen myself as a protector of children… I’ve been drawn to the name [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] for a long long time. I also like the name Nausicaa. She doesn’t get mentioned a lot but it’s been suggested she and [name_m]Odysseus[/name_m] fall in love. In Greek mythology both characters have been compared to each other for their beauty. I don’t care for names like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (*my sisters name!) or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] which is on trend right now.

I was wondering if anyone here knew more about Greek Mythology than I do and could help me decide on a name. I don’t want to pick a name depending on which SOUNDS better, I want one with a meaning that I think will fit the baby’s personality to a T.

Anyone online who could help me figure this one out? Thanks ever so much!

Excuse my poor English btw…

I love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]. I am very biased, but it is one of my very favourite names. I think the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] of Greek mythology is one of the best role models in Greek myth (not perfect, but one of the best): she is strong; smart; independent; capable; protects animals, women and children, etc. What’s not to love?

While Nausicaa isn’t a bad figure of Greek myth (hey, she doesn’t eat her own children, that’s always a plus), I think [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is a much stronger and more admirable character that has many of her own myths, rather than being a small part of someone else’s. Nausicaa doesn’t really create much of an impression on Greek myth, whereas [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] certainly does.

Hiyao Miyazaki has an animated feature film Nausicaa. It is one of my absolute favorite films because I find it very beautiful on many levels.

[name_f]Ceres[/name_f] is the mother earth goddess ([name_f]Persephone[/name_f]'s mom). She makes spring and summer for when her daughter is with her, and fall and winter for when her daughter is in Hades.

[name_f]Pallas[/name_f] [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is amazing. She, however, is associated with the world of men & heroes; strategy in battle; creative & purposeful intelligence; invention. Wise counsel. She is pivotal to many Greek hero stories.

Not that many protector-goddesses in Greek myth, I’m afraid. For your purpose [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] (or [name_f]Diana[/name_f] in [name_m]Roman[/name_m] myth) may be your best bet. Good luck!

^ I agree with nooshi, [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is an amazing role model and while Nausicaa is okay, she doesn’t create much of an impression. Also, Nausicaa reminds me of the word “nausea” meaning sick.
