I’m loving the name [name]Artemis[/name] right now. I am a huge Greek mythology buff and I would love to name my daughter [name]Artemis[/name] someday. What do you think? Is it usable? The only combo I have right now is [name]Artemis[/name] [name]Cate[/name].
I love it, but am having trouble finding a combo I love and I have the problem that my surname starts with S.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] [name]Cate[/name], very cool.
Here in the UK, there is a book about a male supervillain called [name]Artemis[/name] Fowl that was the famous precursor to [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], so I would personally be a little wary. However, it is in itself a pretty name, and there are so many possible nn variants e.g. [name]Amy[/name], [name]Missy[/name], [name]Artie[/name], etc…
But he was given a feminine name. Which I find odd, yet refreshing since girls get saddled with boys names all the time. Plus, if you read through the series, he doesn’t stay evil.
I personally think meeting a little [name]Artemis[/name] would be awesome.
[name]Artemis[/name] Fowl is pretty popular here in the US too, at least it was when I was in middle school. I love the name and [name]Artemis[/name] [name]Cate[/name] sounds gorgeous! Another option, if [name]Artemis[/name] Fowl is too much of a connection for you would be Artemia. I’ve heard of that form used a few times.
[name]Artemis[/name] makes me think of [name]Artemis[/name] Fowl as well. I assumed this was a male name, I love being surprised. I don’t love this name but I do think it’s useable especially if you want a female name that isn’t super feminine sounding. [name]Artemis[/name] sounds strong. I think it would be refreshing to meet a little girl with this name.
I’d love to meet a little [name]Artemis[/name], but I’d personally, if using names from Greek Mythology, would probably use [name]Demetra[/name] ([name]Demeter[/name]) or possibly [name]Persephone[/name]. [name]Diana[/name] is a great alternative for more classic name parents.
There was a boy named [name]Artemis[/name] in my daughter’s kindergarten class. He turned out to be a huge bully with multiple social issues. They tried providing an aide to help him during school hours but it didn’t work and he ended up leaving for some type of alternative school.
Anyway, so I don’t have a great assoc. with the name but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t sweet, wonderful kids out there with
the name.
To be honest, there was another thread here about [name]Artemis[/name] not too long ago, and that’s when I discovered (along with several other berries) that it was a girl’s name and not a boy’s. That being said, even though I’ve already been corrected on this, as soon as I saw this thead I thought “Boy’s Name.” I think you might have similar issues with people thinking your girl was a boy.
I like [name]Artemis[/name]. I never read the [name]Artemis[/name] Fowl books (probably because they’re a little after my time lol) but [name]Artemis[/name] is one of my “[name]Love[/name] it, but don’t have the guts to use it” names. [name]Artemis[/name] [name]Jane[/name] was the combo I liked.
I like it. At first I thought it sounded too masculine for a girl, but then I looked up [name]Artemis[/name] and realized this is a godess, not a god (a little rusty on my Greek mythology!), and it began to grow on me. The nn [name]Artie[/name] would actually be very cute on a girl!
I like [name]Artemis[/name] for a girl. If you’re looking for an even more feminine option, [name]Artemisia[/name] is a lovely consideration. I love it with the nickname, [name]Mimi[/name].
There’s also a character named [name]Artemis[/name] on the TV show “It’s Always [name]Sunny[/name] in [name]Philadelphia[/name].” That’s the actress’s real name as well, just to point out some real world use. The character isn’t the best association, but I don’t thhink that many people know the show.
Thanks for everyone’s opinion! I’m still really loving it, and the nickname [name]Artie[/name]. [name]Artemis[/name] is a pretty cool [name]Goddess[/name] and I think she would be a lovely namesake.
