Arthur for a girl?

I like [name_u]Artie[/name_u] and agree that some girls would prefer a more fem name than [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]. :slightly_smiling_face:

@zoberry I’m glad u think it’s cool! I had never considered [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] as unisex either until I found it on nameberry today!

loll i don’t think i’ve ever seen such strong ā€˜no’ opinions before on here… i don’t get it all the vehement opposition tho. like, why not? arthur is a cool name, girls are cool, hence, girl named arthur = cool

Yeah I think I might’ve touched a nerve or smth haha.
Ik! I love the sound of [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] on a girl! It feels really strong and fierce!

I’m not the best person to ask, since I don’t like gender-bending nor do I like the name [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] in general. It sounds much too harsh, especially to my American ears (the Rs are much stronger here than in the [name_f]British[/name_f] Isles.)

I really love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for a boy for eg! Anyway, I’m not anti [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] on a girl at all, more the principle.

It’s pretty cool. I don’t hate it on a girl. Maybe could use [name_u]Artie[/name_u], [name_f]Attie[/name_f] as nicknames. I just wouldn’t use it personally.

I have read once that Arthes is the feminine form. Artemis is unrelated but could work.

Thora and Thyra have similar sounds. Bernardette and Ursula / Ursa share the same meaning. Other Arthurian nicknames include Guinevere (or Ginevra, Jennifer etc), Morgana (or Morgan), Elaine, Viviana (or Vivian, Vivien).

It’s not unisex in my world. Particularly masculine. So I’d say no, not for me.

I don’t think it’d be so bad. Especially if it were spelled Artha

I’m glad u think so! I love female [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] nn [name_f]Attie[/name_f]!

No. Names that are historical – like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], like [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] – should remain in their original camp.

Nope. I have a son named [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and can’t imagine it on a girl.

You can gender a name anything! If you believe [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] can be a girls name, thats your opinion

There are SO many beautiful feminine names out there. I love me some unisex names but this is NOT one of them. I really dislike the trend of naming his masculine names so it ā€œlooks better on a resume.ā€

Philosophically, I think names are genderless - we made them up, we can assign them to whatever identity we want.

In real, practical terms? I wouldn’t want to be a girl named [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] :see_no_evil:

Also. I think that this would be wonderful if you were changing the name for yourself and you were a girl who loved Arthur for yourself, but I am not sure if your newborn child would want to be Arthur realistically. It is fine for a pet or a character too, other than yourself. But if it is for your daughter as her first name, I recommend some of the options I have stated before.

Some gender neutral names in English are:

Taylor
Jamie
Sasha
Honor
Rowan
Evelyn (It is mostly feminine now, but it used to be gender neutral until just like 100 years ago or less)
Leslie
Ashley
Hazel
Quinn
Robin
Avery
Charlie

I think those could all be good and nice choices for a newborn girl if it is supposed to be gender neutral. What do you think?

I originally posted this just to see what people though of [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] for a girl but now I’m kinda attached haha but I do like [name_f]Thora[/name_f]. I’m not too into those gender neutral names, sorry.

Uh, no. Until it becomes the norm for boys to be given traditional female names as it has for girls to be given traditional male names… I’m not a fan of ā€œunisexā€ or ā€œgender-neutralā€ names as it’s one-way.

I like the suggestion of Artura.
