Arthur Miller -- thoughts?

I love the name [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] but the last name would be [name_u]Miller[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] the similar endings make it a no go?

Iā€™m not a fan of [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] to begin with. To me itā€™s more of a dog name. But thatā€™s just me if you love it go for it.

I like the similar sounds! It reminds me of a celebrity name or a movie star name. Would you be giving him a nickname? That might help.

Personally, I feel that the name, because of the similar endings, sounds too much like a character name. Maybe try something like [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] if you would like more ā€œagedā€ names!

Iā€™m surprised no oneā€™s mentioned this but for me itā€™s a no go because itā€™s the same name as the famous playwright (The Crucible, Death of a Salesman). I think anyone with this name would spend their life explaining that he wasnā€™t named after [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Miller[/name_u].

^^Came here to say the same thing. Itā€™s a nice combo! But the association is very strong for me (not that itā€™s a bad one!)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] OP, welcome! I like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], however I feel that having the same name as the famous playwright would be a problem. The repeated endings are not a big issue.

I also love [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]! I considered it as a middle for myself but it doesnā€™t flow well with my first name. I think the flow of [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Miller[/name_u] is perfectly fine! Not strange or matchy-matchy to me (:

I think [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Miller[/name_u] works! I love the nickname [name_m]Art[/name_m] for [name_u]Arthur[/name_u].

I was thinking the same thing. I saw the title of this thread and immediately thought of the playwright, and I was so surprised hardly anyone had mentioned it.
I like the name itself, but I agree that the association is too strong.

Saw the title and was going to say the exact same thing! Much too strong of an association for it to be useable, sorry.

Was going to say this!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I was also concerned about the playwright association but decided not to mention it to see if anyone brought it up.

I donā€™t know about that playwright everyone is talking about, I was going to say itā€™s a handsome name but thatā€™s something to consider I guess

I hadnā€™t either until I googled ā€œArthur Millerā€ to see if there was anyone famous! Unfortunately with the last name [name_u]Miller[/name_u] this happens a lot

Iā€™m not familiar with the playwright, I think if the name is associated with a serial killer/bad person I wouldnā€™t use it. Otherwise, I donā€™t think itā€™s a big deal. I know someone called [name_m]Tom[/name_m] Petty for example, itā€™s kind of cool!

I donā€™t really think this matters much. [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] is a common name and no one chooses their last name but [name_u]Miller[/name_u] is very common too. However it could be an association you want to avoid maybe. There are tons of [name_u]Will[/name_u] Smiths that arenā€™t named after [name_u]Will[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] the actor.

I do think [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Miller[/name_u] is a bit flat sounding with both names being 2 syllables and ending with a similar sound. It doesnā€™t sound bad though if ypu love [name_u]Arthur[/name_u].

Had to share this because its name related!

Itā€™s about all I remember from the Crucible :joy:

I should have added that I donā€™t think there is any real issue with using the name - as others have said, itā€™s not a bad association at all - but to me itā€™s, if not unusable, bordering on it because it takes away a sense of individuality and ownership from the wearer. I just feel that the majority of people would at the very least pause when they heard the name and, in many/most cases, immediately say ā€˜oh, like the playwrightā€™? I just think it would get frustrating for the wearer, especially if the namesake was unintentional.

To me, itā€™s like having the surname [name_u]Ryder[/name_u] and using [name_f]Winona[/name_f], or having the surname [name_m]King[/name_m] and using [name_m]Stephen[/name_m]. There are just so many great names out there so I wouldnā€™t want to use one that so immediately evokes someone else, especially if it was someone I had little knowledge of.

But to the OP, I donā€™t think the two names together are problematic at all in terms of their similar endings.

Agreed. Iā€™m a theater artist so thought maybe I was just biased, but the name is an immediate and unshakable connection for me. Heā€™s one of the giants of playwriting and it seems like a one person name now (not Arthur, but Arthur Miller). I personally donā€™t think itā€™s usable for that reason, sorry!!
