Arthur "Teddy"

What do you think of the nickname “[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]” for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]? I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] would be more of a family nickname, but it may be used by other people too.

Hey, I’m all for unconventional nicknames - because they’re just that, pet names, something other than your given name, mostly / hopefully also for fun.
While naturally it would be confusing for outsiders, especially as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is becoming so popular, I think between the family it’s adorable! Especially since you can tie it to your little [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Bear[/name_m] > [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] means ‘bear’

I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is super cute for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (though I do prefer [name_m]Archie[/name_m] & [name_m]Artie[/name_m]) but because it’s not a given nickname for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], you could find yourself having to explain a lot but it definitely works.

I think it works well!!

I think it could work - both via meaning and because I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], like [name_u]Sonny[/name_u], is pretty versatile

You will definitely have to explain it to others since I don’t think the meaning of [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is common knowledge but I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is an awful lot cuter than [name_m]Art[/name_m] or [name_m]Artie[/name_m]!

I wouldn’t connect [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] to [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], but I think it works as a nickname for any kid because of teddy bears - I could see it being a lovely family nickname the way some people call their kids [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] or [name_u]Scout[/name_u] or [name_f]Honey[/name_f], etc. I don’t know if that’s what you’re going for, but it would work in my book.

It absolutely works. It’s actually my preferred nickname. I understand the connection and prefer unconventional nicknames. Some other names [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] could work for that aren’t usual - [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m], [name_m]Bernard[/name_m], [name_m]Edward[/name_m]
