I have loved [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] for so long… since before I even considered having children - it would also tie in beautifully with the unintentional ‘theme’ that would work for us (all names end in a ‘short vowel & n’ sound… [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_f]Bethan[/name_f], [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f]… ([name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is the top choice if we ever have a boy) Not to mention the fact it’s not just a Welsh name but a [name_f]Fantasy[/name_f] Literature / [name_m]Elven[/name_m] name (names I am very drawn to).
But Averlie sounds so pretty and it has such a ‘pull’ for me, I feel if I don’t get the chance to use it, I will regret it. It comes from a very old Anglo [name_m]Saxon[/name_m] name ‘[name_m]Everley[/name_m]’ (a name which has since become very popular and considered ‘modern’ but definitely isn’t)… I also love the ‘[name_u]Avery[/name_u]’ sound to it - [name_u]Avery[/name_u] means ‘[name_m]Elven[/name_m] counsel’… again [name_m]Elven[/name_m]… It also has less ‘association’ since a lot of people will think I’m just using ‘[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]’ because of [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings, which is a nice association, but not the reason I love the name (loved it before I knew of Tolkien).
I plan on having 3 children, so if I have 3 girls it works out. But not if I only ever have 1 other girl. My daughter is [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f].
Personally I prefer [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]. I think it’s magical, mysterious, and the [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings connection, just adds extra beauty and imagery to the name. But I think Averlie sounds better with [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f], they have a similar style, so they work together, but not too similar in terms of sound. So I’d say individually [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], but with [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f], Averlie.
I wouldn’t think you just used [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] because of LOTR, though I understand that others may only have heard the name there. I love [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and prefer it to Averlie. Averlie has something bothering me…maybe it feels unfinished?
I prefer [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]!
Also, wouldn’t Averlie be misheard as [name_u]Avery[/name_u]?
Last thing: why not put one as fn and one as mn? Then you get to use both!
They are both beautiful names! But I would have to agree with everyone else and say [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]. I also like @cmariac idea of using [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] Averlie! It’s a really cute combo.
I think [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f] and Averlie go together better, but I do prefer [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], although my first thought upon hearing it was LOTR (which is a positive association for me).
I prefer [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] as a first name bc unfortunately, even if it isn’t modern and has a legitimate history, a lot of people will judge Averlie upon meeting as having a “trendy, yoo-neek” name and that may bother her. I like the sound of [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] Averlie as a first and middle name. [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Lace[/name_f] & [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] Averlie
Personally I strongly prefer Averlie. [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] has a certain masculinity to it, despite it being a girl’s name. I think Averlie is just prettier and rolls off the tongue nicely.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I do likr [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] Averlie… but the middle names we had picked for both names were [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] or Averlie [name_f]Snow[/name_f] (possibly [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]).
Im not currently pregnant but trying in the new year… naming my daughter was so stressful I want to get the names sorted now.
I am due in [name_f]April[/name_f] 2017 and [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], but my partner is not keen. Naming this little baby girl is extremely hard for us too! Good luck trying and finding a name
I love [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] especially as a little sister to [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] is a sweet combo although I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] Averlie, or even Averlie [name_f]Arwen[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]. Averlie seems made-up, like a smoosh of [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. You might also like Elvery, a rare English surname.
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is in my opinion a much better choice! It has such cool imagery, and is all around easy to pronounce and common while still being unique.
I definitely prefer [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] over Averlie, and it fits well with [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f]
You may also like Carwen, which is also of Welsh origin (although maybe not with sister [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f] simply due to the repeat of the hard C sound)
