Aslan thoughts, similar?

I like this name a lot, but only recently realized it may be unusable. I know a lot think [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] and then there’s possibly a meaning that makes it not proper to use?
Thoughts on this? Similar in sound? Thank you

I wouldn’t call it unusable, unless there is something I’m not thinking of. It means “Lion”, which goes along with [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_u]Leo[/name_u], so I wouldn’t call it inappropriate. It is, however, greatly tied to [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], so some may see it as a religious name (maybe a little bit of “improper” religious like naming your child [name_u]Messiah[/name_u] or YHWH?) because it is the [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] figure in that book. Some names with the name meaning would be [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_u]Leon[/name_u] + variants, and [name_m]Allen[/name_m] comes to mind for similar sounds.

I’d 100% associate it with Narnia but wouldn’t say that makes it unusable, just that people would most likely assume you were a big CS Lewis fan whether you were or not. I can imagine it being quite distinguished on a grown man to be honest, but with the religious associations within Narnia, it’s possibly a lot of name to give a small child.

[name_m]Aslan[/name_m] does have an appealing sound and powerful vibe - it might be a bit heavy to wear however and is very associated with [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] where I am. (It is however also a friend’s surname :woman_shrugging: so maybe it could work?)

A few similar in sound:

[name_u]Atlas[/name_u]
[name_u]Evren[/name_u]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_u]Aven[/name_u]
[name_u]Afton[/name_u]
Azwin
[name_m]Ansel[/name_m]
[name_m]Azriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Arlan[/name_m]
[name_u]Quinlan[/name_u]
[name_u]Alden[/name_u]
[name_m]Amias[/name_m]

Does it seem more useable - or hold less weight - when used as a middle?
Thanks for the responses!

I had a waiter named [name_m]Aslan[/name_m] about 15 years ago. It was at a fancy restaurant. I remember asking him about his name and he said he liked it and that it means lion. Well, I still remember him today, so I guess that means something! Definitely usable.

I think it would make a lovely middle, yes!

I know an [name_m]Aslan[/name_m]! I definitely think it’s usable.
It’s such a beautiful name, so strong and magical sounding. The meaning (lion) is great, too!
I definitely associate it with [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], but that makes me like the name more, personally

I think it’s usable! [name_m]Ruslan[/name_m] is a related name that also means lion :lion:

I like this name too! But as a Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] lover, the name does seem a bit unusable. If I met an [name_m]Aslan[/name_m], though, I wouldn’t think much of it, just that’s it’s handsome and strong and I quite like it. So there’s me being picky lol.
Maybe as a middle? A cousin of mine is named Eth@n [name_m]Aslan[/name_m], and I think it’s really cute!

Thoughts on [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Aslan[/name_m]? Too much with two A’s?

I like it, they are very similar but overall I think it has a strong, regal sound

I misread the title as [name_f]Asian[/name_f].

I love it! I didn’t read the Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] though so I didn’t know it was a character I there.
Asan / [name_m]Hasan[/name_m] could be an alternative if the reference bugs you too much.

I think it’s originally Mongolian?
