Astrid or Ingrid?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they give you different vibes? Spanish speakers: would the endings be said with a t (like how [name_m]Davit[/name_m] for david) or usable in general?

Thanks!

Ooh, tricky.

I think I slightly prefer [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - it gives me starry, bright vibes, a bit of sass and kick.

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is lovely too - slightly darker, witchy vibes

I prefer Ingrid-- sheā€™s solid, glamorous, strong, classic, and gracefulā€¦Just such a lovely name. I appreciate the fire and spark of [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], but her sounds are less pleasing to me.
In Spanish, I would probably say ā€œEen-gritā€ and ā€œAhs-tritā€ like the way Davidā€”> [name_m]Davit[/name_m] and Judithā€”> [name_f]Judit[/name_f]. They arenā€™t very easily pronounced, but I think usable.

I prefer [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] mainly because if people over-pronounce the first syllable in [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] it can be a bit awkward. Both are lovely and give very Norse/medieval countryside vibes!

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is my favourite :crystal_ball:

Both are beautiful however I prefer [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] sheā€™s elegant, bright, strong and has this dark witchy feel.

i absolutely adore both names (and the similar [name_f]Sigrid[/name_f], as well!), but i think i slightly prefer [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. however, thatā€™s almost entirely because of the first syllable of [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], which could maybe cause a few issues. i also prefer the slightly softer sound of [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]!

I prefer [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] reminds me of an episode of The Office, [name_u]Jan[/name_u] names her baby [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and they accidentally spell and pronounce is asturd if you catch my driftā€¦

This is a tough choice!! I think I slightly prefer [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], as it feels a bit stronger and carefree whereas as [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] feels a bit more refined in a way? Both are such lovely names!

I prefer [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f].

The (American) series ā€œThe Officeā€ had a bit about the mispronunciation of [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and I canā€™t think about anything else when I see it.

I really love both!

I would go with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] just because I know a little girl named [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] already.

I enjoy the Scandinavian origins of both names, their elegance and restraint in sound, the fact they are both 100% feminine but not frilly. They are sensible and no-nonsense, but still with a sense of fun.

Ingrid by far. When I hear this name I envision an artist who lives out in the countryside & has a garden filled with medicinal herbs & flowers :leaves::basket: Also, I love the nickname Inga :sun_with_face:

Yep, cool name that has totally been ruined for me by my husbandā€™s favorite show lol.

Ingrid!! So sweet and Scandinavian. And love the close relative/ nickname Inga. Astrid also reminds me of the Office. The tightly wound, superior Jan named her daughter Astrid and i her a similar vibe from the name. Itā€™s also just not pretty to me, whereas Ingrid is like cottagecore and very sweet

Depends - I like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] better as a first name - I think [name_u]Aster[/name_u] and [name_f]Addy[/name_f] are sweet nns and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] feels very bookish and magical, which I guess is what astronomy feels like in general. Not sure why [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] feels like astronomyā€¦ but she sorta does. All deep purples and twinkly stars and reading in corners of dusty old libraries and the magic of learning.

Honestly I do like [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] more, I think I would actually use [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] whereas I would likely not use [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], but I would probably reserve [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] as a middle as [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] feels more twinkly and I love the nn potential of [name_u]Aster[/name_u] and [name_f]Addy[/name_f]. [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] feels more reserved but she also has this glamorous old hollywood feel, probably because of [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] Bergman and The Inn of the Sixth [name_f]Happiness[/name_f] (which may also be a reason why I like [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] more, I have some really lovely ties to [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], and the tie to one of my favorite heroes, [name_f]Gladys[/name_f] Aylward, is one of them!). Admittedly another reason I would reserve her as a middle - I am not a huge fan of most nns for [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] - [name_f]Ina[/name_f], [name_f]Inga[/name_f], and [name_u]Indie[/name_u] are not appealing to me in general. But if they areā€¦ [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is a gorgeous name! I would happily use [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] as a middle, I was a fan of [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] for a long while.

I do not speak Spanish, so Iā€™ll leave that question for those who can speak better to it. But my short answer is - in general, [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], but as a first name, I would pick [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. Good luck!

@OctaviaMay thanks for the Spanish insight! Most of the names here end in a s or l but Ad@line / Ad@lina are getting quite popular here, so I know itā€™s a doable sound it other places :woman_facepalming:t2:

@somemelodioussonnet oooof :face_with_spiral_eyes: Iā€™ve only watched the [name_f]British[/name_f] office, so Iā€™m glad you told me

i personally prefer ingrid, only because of astridā€™s association with the film how to train your dragon. though astrid itself has no association with the stars, i always make the connection between astro & astrid. its meaning is beautiful, though ā€“ literally. ingrid has a stormy yet gentle demeanour to her, which i find beautiful. in spanish, iā€™d likely pronounce them as een-greet & ahs-treet, similarly to david.

For a long time i prefered [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], its a lovely name, but as soon as i saw the title my mind went ā€˜Astridā€™. I really like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] because it makes me think of stars (like ā€˜Astraā€™) even though it has no connections.

Regardless, i think both are gorgeous! Cant choose right now
