[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I were searching for a name to honor our astronaut friend when we came across the name Astro, meaning “from the stars”. I instantly fell in love, which is unusual for me. It is certainly more “adventurous” than my usual naming style. We would pair it with [name_u]Cameron[/name_u], a more common middle name to balance it out. I thought with the rising “[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]” for girls, Astro didn’t seem so far off.
I need honest feed back. Is Astro [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] atrocious? Would you dismiss a resume if you saw the name Astro on it? Our first son’s name is [name_m]Noble[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], does this fit? Is the Jettsons’ dog’s name too strong/negative of a connotation?
When I hear Astro, all I can hear is ASS trow. But its alot better than [name_m]Noble[/name_m]. I would dismiss a resume if I saw that name and the name [name_m]Noble[/name_m], to be honest. Astro and [name_m]Noble[/name_m] are an okay set…
I would either switch it up, [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] Astro or find another name completely
I like the meaning, and I like [name_f]Astra[/name_f] for a girl. Astro goes with your son’s name (which is really cool btw), because they’re both quite unusual. One reason I (personally) am not a fan, is because we spent ages on a tedious topic in school a few years ago, making databases, spreadsheets, etc. based on a theme park called Astroland. So basically now Astro reminds me of that, and there’s that annoying first syllable. But I could probably get around it if I met a little an Astro.
Also, I’d employ anyone regardless of their name including Astro, but I do have a feeling others wouldn’t. Space related names for boys are difficult, all the ones I think of end in -n, so don’t really work with [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]. Maybe Cygnus (if you don’t mind alliteration) or [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] or another constellation? [name_m]Draco[/name_m] would be a great option, but [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] may have tainted it somewhat. Oh, and I don’t really know who the Jettsons are (heard the name though) so their dog doesn’t mean anything to me.
Her first son is already named [name_m]Noble[/name_m], no need to be rude. Jeez.
I could see it on a kid. I think it’s cute…but I don’t think it ages well. Plus, there’s a old show named Astro boy that I think of, but that’s just me. Have you thought of [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]?
[name_f]My[/name_f] mind instantly goes to the [name_m]Jetson[/name_m]'s. Sorry :-/ It’s up to you whether or not that would bother you, though! If you don’t mind, then it’s not a problem. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestion of [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]!
Sorry, but it does feel a lot like a joke name or pet name.
I’d probably assume Astro was a nickname and the person was a little wild if someone introduced themselves by that name.
Maybe [name_f]Aster[/name_f]? It sounds more like a family name, the same way [name_m]Noble[/name_m] does.
I agree that it seems more like a pet name to me because I worked at a doggy daycare where we had a few “Astro’s” named after the dog on the Jetsons. If you love it I think it is good to balance it with a more common name. You could consider using it as a middle name as well in honor of your friend.
I know someone who nicknames her boy Astro! I can’t remember why exactly but as a baby she always called him Astro-baby and now he gets called Astronaut and Astro a lot… it’s pretty cute but I wouldn’t personally use it as a name, although I think it could work in the middle spot if you really wanted to use it. I’m agreeing with the suggestion of [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]! [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] is a fab name.
It seems like he would end up hearing a lot of astroglide jokes. Sorry. I’m going to agree with others that you should consider [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m].
Astro turf, Astro van is what comes to my mind initially but I can see getting used to this as a name. I did not know the name of the Jettson’ s dog. [name_m]Noble[/name_m] is a great choice. Go with what you love.
