Atalanta?

Honest thoughts on [name]Atalanta[/name]?
What do you think of the Greek myth?
Any ideas for nicknames?
Would you even need a nickname?
Any suggestions for middle names?

Thanks

[name]Atalanta[/name] actually sounds really pretty to me for some reason. I think the Greek myth would be a cool thing to tell your daughter when she is old enough. As for nicknames I don’t really think you need one with a nice name like this

This is a major guilty pleasure name for me, I love the sound, the association, gorgeous and strong.

I could see an [name]Atalanta[/name] going by [name]Attie[/name] or [name]Lana[/name]

I don’t know the myth behind the name, so forgive me for not understanding the name. All I think of when I see it is the city [name]Atlanta[/name] and my first concern would be that people would constantly misspell or mispronounce it.

Though, as I write this and say the name over and over in my head, I’m liking it a bit more. I’m a sucker for any name with a special meaning. I especially think [name]Attie[/name], as suggested above, would be a great nn. Since it’s a 4 syllable name (if I’m pronouncing it correctly), I think people will most likely give it a nn.

What type of style are you looking for with middle names? I always like it when parents choose a traditional/classic name to go with a more unique first name.

What about-
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Cora[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Kathryn[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

I feel a little torn over the myths; some cast her as a great feministy sort of woman, but then there’s the (most well-known?) one where she lets her hubris and vanity get in the way and goes for the golden apples in the foot race and is married off… So I don’t know how I feel about that, haha.

I too think that [name]Atalanta[/name] would get frequently rolled into [name]Atlanta[/name], which would be a downside for me. [name]Lana[/name] would be my nickname of preference, though [name]Attie[/name] falls in with the [name]Addie[/name] crowd.

I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] this name! I’ve been trying to convince my husband to let me use it as a middle name. For me it’s not about the Greek myth so much as the depiction of the footrace in [name]Free[/name] to be… You and Me. I think it’s a lovely name that’s along the like of [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name].

I would probably keep the middle name short and sweet:

[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Clare[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Joy[/name]

I think it’s a very nice name, with the only downside being unfamiliar to most people who will probably think that it’s [name]Atlanta[/name]. The myths (there are several that involve [name]Atalanta[/name], including the foot race, the Calydonian Boar hunt, and some versions of [name]Jason[/name] and the Argonauts include her), is what made this name very appealing to me. It’s very worthy and strong inspiration for a namesake. I would probably use the nickname, [name]Tally[/name]/[name]Tallie[/name]/etc, in efforts to stress the -tal in [name]Atalanta[/name]. [name]Lana[/name] and [name]Attie[/name] are nice too.

[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Jean[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Joan[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Emma[/name]
[name]Atalanta[/name] [name]Julia[/name]

i love it. middle name should be georgia.

The name is cute beautiful but I think more often than not it would be confused for [name]Atlanta[/name]. I think it might be better as a MN.

Well, being from a town near [name]Atlanta[/name], it’s just a little similar for me. I do like it as a MN though.

I had to laugh at this response. Perhaps I sense some sarcasm?

Well I live about an hour and a half away from [name]Atlanta[/name], so that’s all I think about.

I [name]DO[/name] think it would be really cool in the middle, though - as neat s it is, I just don’t think it’s overly usable.

My previous post should have been in response to ppppp090909. (My edit button doesn’t seem to be working).

I think [name]Atalanta[/name] is fine as long as you don’t live near the city of [name]Atlanta[/name]. [name]Atalanta[/name] is feminine, strong, and unusual. You could use the nicknames [name]Attie[/name], [name]Tallie[/name], or [name]Annie[/name].
