Currently have [name]Athena[/name] as a middle name option. Hubby mentioned it as a first name contender, which made my day! What are your thoughts on [name]Athena[/name] as a first name?
I don’t care if it is a “big” name, with a lot to live up to, that would never stop me from considering a name and is completely a non-issue for me.
I think it’s a lovely name, very cute and I’d love to meet one.
The only thing I have against it is that I don’t really like any of the nn’s expect [name]Annie[/name] and maybe [name]Attie[/name]?
I think it’s gorgeous, I’d love to see someone use this. It’s secretly on my list for future babas. I think it sounds awesome with [name]Luther[/name], both have the utterly delicious th-sound, and both are strong epic namesakes.
I also like [name]Athene[/name], but of course it depends on if you want the -nuh or -nee ending.
I love love love this name. And, it’s history. [name]Athena[/name] is my absolute favorite greek goddess. I admire you and your hubby though because knowing that I never would have the guts to put this name on an actual child, I named my dog [name]Athena[/name]! She’s a little border collie and I thought it fit because they’re a very very intelligent breed.
Anyway, I think it would be great on a little girl. And I definitely agree that [name]Athena[/name] and [name]Luther[/name] sound great together!
Yey! Positive feedback. I was worried everybody would say that its pretentious.
I agree with kala_way about the nicknames; I am not a huge fan of any of them. That isn’t an overly big deal to me though, I didn’t like any of the nicknames for [name]Luther[/name] either, and [name]Lulu[/name], has oddly grown on me.
[name]Ottilie[/name], I am drawn to names with the “th” sound in it. I also love that both my name, [name]Cynthia[/name], and [name]Athena[/name] have a link with Greek mythology.
mnmemily15, I was surprised to see [name]Athena[/name] has been on the SSA top 100 since 1955 and it has been steadily getting more popular! It was ranked 247 in 2012! Anyway, I love border collies! They are such nice dogs!
It actually works very well if you ask me. Being someone who is a stickler for nn though, that’s the only snag. Other than that, it has great history, and sounds very nice. It’s definitely unique, but it is usable, and quite lovely!
It is my middle name and I’ve always liked it. I got the name from my great-aunt [name]Athena[/name] who was called [name]Thea[/name] (and was from Greece). I say go for it!
I’ve known two girls named [name]Athena[/name] (both from very Greek families), so to me this is a totally playground-friendly name as well as a strong, gorgeous mythological choice. I would love to meet another little [name]Athena[/name] – the ones I know are both great kids.
I love the name [name]Athena[/name]! I also like the [name]Athina[/name] spelling which I have seen a few time. As far as nicknames go, [name]Nina[/name] is a possibility as well as [name]Tina[/name].
[name]One[/name] of my students’ middle name is [name]Athena[/name] and she confessed to me that she wished it was her first name. I think it’s awesome!
I love [name]Athena[/name]! I currently have it in my [name]Rosalind[/name] combo. I agree that it goes well with [name]Luther[/name]. I say go for it!
I think [name]Athena[/name] is a gorgeous name. Very strong, interesting, with a pretty sound and nice association, and it’s subtle enough to be more usable than a name like [name]Aphrodite[/name] or even [name]Artemis[/name] (although I like [name]Artemis[/name], too!).
If my favorite boy’s name wasn’t [name]Apollo[/name], I would consider putting this on my list.
