I’ve been considering the boy name Atreyu (pronounced ah-tray-yoo). What are some of your thoughts on this name and what would make a nice middle name for it? Or would Atreyu be best as a middle?

Wow great name suggestions!!! I really like Atreyu [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. And [name_u]Devon[/name_u] Atreyu. I’m always attracted to literary names. I got it from never ending story. I also know that there’s a rock band with the same name as well which my husband automatically thought of when I suggested the name. lol. thank you so much grace_newgrace
Reminds me of the screamo/ death metal band. They have some good songs though. Never considered it as an actual real life name, but it could work. Atreyu grey does sound nice.
I think this could really grow on me. I guess he’d probably have the nn [name_m]Trey[/name_m]. That’s pretty cool too.

I would prefer it as a middle name, just because it might give rise to some pronunciation and/or spelling difficulties. That might just be me though, as I’ve never heard the name before.

Neverending [name_u]Story[/name_u] FTW! This one will definitely get a lot of raised eyebrows and strange looks [name_m]IRL[/name_m], so if you’re not as adventurous as all that, putting it in the middle is an ideal solution. Other than it just being pretty obscure and unfamiliar, the one thing I don’t like about it is that it sounds a bit like “betray you.” If that doesn’t bother you then I say go for it.
First or middle, either way, I’d consider a more traditional or common name to pair with it.

I like the sound and flow of the name, although I’ve never heard it used other than in the Never Ending [name_u]Story[/name_u]. If I heard a mom calling out to her child named Atreyu at the playground I would think it was a cool choice and you’re pretty much guaranteed your child wouldn’t share his name with any other kids!
I’m not a fan. It feels contrived and like you’re trying too hard to be unique. It does work better in the middle though.

I think its usable, mostly middle but doesn’t have to be, would need a similarly magical pairing. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] gets my vote either way.
I chose this name for my son, who is now 13… Spelled Atraeyu. He goes by [name_m]Trae[/name_m] at school. In retrospect, I like the traditional spelling because it will be easier for people to pronounce. He loves his name. I’ve also met 2 other Atreyus over the years!
I’ve had many people ask if I named my son after the metal band and I answer "yeah and if I have a girl, I’ll name her Metallica!
