Attention all UK berries! I need some help

Hello All,
I am interested in some british girls names but would like to know some info from locals.

[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Saffron[/name]

[name]How[/name] popular are these names? For what age group newborns, 2-4yr old, teenagers? Are these names on a lot of your friends lists but are they too scared to use them? Have they hit their peek or still going strong? I am not pregnant yet, just ttc. I am interested in all these names but there is a possibility that we may move to [name]England[/name] so I dont want my kid to have the equivalent of [name]Isabella[/name] in the USA.

Thanx,
[name]Meryl[/name]

I’m not from the UK but if I could piggyback on your post I would like to know more about [name]Ottilie[/name].

None of those names are ones I’ve come across on actual people I’ve met and I’ve lived my whole life in the UK.
I really don’t think you have to worry about popularity with names like [name]Saffron[/name], [name]Tamsin[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Marigold[/name] or Ottillie.
I’m not always sure what Americans seem to think of how things work in the UK but most of the popular names are quite similar and I certainly don’t think these names have been popular in the UK for 100 years or so if ever.

Thank you for your response kiki. When I lived in [name]London[/name] about 4 yrs ago names like [name]Freya[/name], gemma and [name]Jemima[/name] were popular, these names are unheard of in usa. Was it [name]Rollo[/name] whose grand daughter was to be named [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] but then didnt go with it as it was pop?

I’ve known two Imogens, one who is seventeen and one who is about fifty, I haven’t ever met any people of the other names but on the 2008 list [name]Clementine[/name] is at #584, [name]Tamsin[/name] is at #471, I don’t think [name]Marigold[/name] hits the popularity list and [name]Saffron[/name] is at #321, [name]Ottilie[/name] is at #990. All beautiful names by the way, but I don’t think you have to worry about any of them getting too popular.

[name]Imogen[/name] - I know three Imogens and have met and heard of quite a few more; I believe it is on the rise, but the three I know are teens.
[name]Clementine[/name] - I only know of one, but judging by the Telegraph birth announcements it is on the rise among the upper middle class. The [name]Clementine[/name] I know is around my age. It will be more popular, surprisingly so to Americans, but I don’t imagine it will ever become like [name]Isabella[/name]. Although, it does have the desirable em-sound …
[name]Tamsin[/name] - the actress. I think she is in her 30s? It seems dated to me, but only because of the nn [name]Tammy[/name].
[name]Marigold[/name] - I have never met one. A lovely name, my only worry is the yellow rubber gloves association, which the older generation will think of.
[name]Saffron[/name] - a wonderful, unusual, spunky name, I have never met one and do not think it is popular at all. [name]EDIT[/name]: Met one at the supermarket last week! Aged around 12, I think.

Good luck! [name]Auburn[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] there,

I’m from the UK, and have lived in both [name]England[/name] & [name]Scotland[/name], so I should be able to help with the popularity side of things.

I knew 6 Imogens in [name]England[/name]. Two of which were in the 18-24 age bracket, and the other 4 were a 3 yr old, 1yr old, another 1 year old and a small baby. I’ve only ever known 1 in [name]Scotland[/name], who is not even a year old at the moment.

I’ve never known a [name]Clementine[/name], but it is regarded as slightly snobbish and la-di-da (both in [name]England[/name] and [name]Scotland[/name]). But I have never known any.

[name]Tamsin[/name] is not that popular, I’ve only known 1 and she would be 19 now. I’ve only ever known OF Tamsins who are over the age of 15, it is the name of a few friend’s relatives. I’ve never known a baby or small child with the name.

I’ve never, ever known or known of a [name]Marigold[/name] or [name]Saffron[/name], both of which are extremely pretty!

Overall, I’d say [name]Imogen[/name] is really quite popular so if popularity bothers you then I would avoid this. [name]Tamsin[/name] is fairly common amongst 15-30 year olds, but not really on small children- I wouldn’t say its dated, just faded in popularity.

[name]Hi[/name]
I’ve only heard of one girl called [name]Imogen[/name]
One called [name]Saffron[/name] and 2 called [name]Tamsin[/name], so I don’t think that they are overly popular. I have heard of anyone called [name]Clementine[/name] or [name]Marigold[/name] and I think these names would be considered quite snobbish.

I don’t think any of these names are too popular. [name]Imogen[/name] is probably the most popular but even so it’s nowhere near Isaballa style popularity. I know one (teenager). I’m Scottish though, so [name]England[/name] might be different.

I am American, but have lived in the UK for two years now. The only name I have heard in actual use from that list is [name]Imogen[/name], and the woman with this name was in her 40s. [name]Tamsin[/name] seems popular for babies in [name]London[/name] (based off birth announcements), but I haven’t actually met anyone who named their baby this. I think you’d be fine with any of those choices and they’d not be too popular.

I would say that [name]Imogen[/name] is the most common. [name]Tamsin[/name] was pretty common when I was at school in the 80s. The others I think are unusual although sound pretty English.
