Atticus for a middle name? (Baby due NEXT WEEK)

Okay, we’re expecting a baby next week (gender unknown). We’re set with a girl’s name but still working on a boy’s name. We’re considering [name]Atticus[/name] for a middle name and I want a little feedback on it. [name]Do[/name] you love it? Hate it? Indifferent? Think it’s too weird or pretentious? FWIW, I am a lawyer, and I wonder if that makes it cheesy ([name]Atticus[/name] [name]Finch[/name] and all) - I feel like [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Finch[/name] is about the least pretentious or objectionable lawyer character out there, but just want a little feedback on this idea… ([name]Atticus[/name] would sound equally good with the first names we are considering. I’m more concerned about how [name]Atticus[/name] will be perceived.)

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Atticus[/name]. I don’t think it’s cheesy at all that you’re a lawyer, too. [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Finch[/name] and [name]Huckleberry[/name] [name]Finn[/name] are the best characters in American Literature!

[name]LOVE[/name] IT…go for it. It’s a strong name and I think the association with the classic is great.

Best Wishes,
[name]Kelly[/name]

I agree…I think its great!

I think it’s great: go for it!

I love [name]Atticus[/name], too! Yes, people may think of To Kill a Mockingbird, but I think that’s an amazing book, and [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Finch[/name] was a virtuous man who embodied truth, justice, and dignity.

Does [name]Atticus[/name] work with your last name?

Good luck!

Great great name. Like [name]Jill[/name] pointed out, it’s not cheesy at all and has wonderful associations esp. since you are a lawyer.

My sons middle name is [name]Atticus[/name], after the fact that both when I met my husband and when I discovered I was pregnant with said child, I was reading the book To Kill A Mockingbird… I also think it is a very strong name.
I have only twice had someone actually make a rude/negative remark when they heard his middle name (his first name is [name]Hudson[/name], btw) the 1st time when I told the nurse his full name right after he was born she made some comment like “where did the adams and christophers go”… but I think it was directed at both his names, not just [name]Atticus[/name]… and she was also in her 60’s.
The other time a neighbour made a face when she found out… other than that it has been VERY well received, I often get complimented on it as a matter of fact.

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

Yes, it’s great! I’ve never heard a negative comment about this name. I thought everyone loved To Kill a Mockingbird. Solid name choice.

Great choice! Would you mind sharing your first name choices? I would love to hear what great combos you have come up with! Best wishes on the delivery!

Thanks, everyone for your responses. Unfortunately, my husband found out that the original ([name]Roman[/name]) [name]Atticus[/name] died a tragic death…so he doesn’t want to use [name]Atticus[/name] now for a MN. I thought the first name was going to be [name]Liam[/name], but last night my husband floated that one out on another message board and it sounds like that one is really popular, so that’s a major ding. (I have a VERY common first name - always had to go by my first and last name and now people at work just call me by a nickname of my last name b/c there’s three people at my firm with my first name.) Another possibility is [name]Graham[/name], but I just don’t like it quite enough. I love [name]Wyatt[/name], but DH doesn’t. We both like [name]Max[/name], but that’s even more popular than [name]Liam[/name]. DH likes [name]Cooper[/name], but I’m not wild about it. We also considered [name]Cormac[/name], but I think that’s a bit too unusual (too many people won’t know how to spell/pronounce it). Our DS is named [name]Owen[/name]…if only we could come up with another boy’s name we like as much! C-section is on Thursday…

If you love it, go for it!

Names for you to ponder that I think go well with [name]Owen[/name] (which is a great name btw)

[name]Parker[/name]
[name]Bailey[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Brenden[/name]
[name]Landen[/name]
[name]Austin[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]/[name]Jake[/name]

[name]Emmerson[/name]

Good luck… cant wait to hear what name you have chosen!!!

[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Finnian[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Kellan[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]

[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Xavier[/name]

I love the name [name]Cormac[/name]. I don’t think it’s weird at all. Very Scottish, manly and cool. Also, [name]Cormac[/name] [name]McCarthy[/name] is one of my favorite authors.

I like the idea of using [name]Cormac[/name] with [name]Max[/name] as his nickname.

Ultimately handsome Irish name: [name]Love[/name] [name]Cormac[/name], and it sounds great with [name]Owen[/name].
[name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Liam[/name] or [name]Graham[/name] with [name]Owen[/name].
[name]Cormac[/name] is great because it’s Irish, but it doesn’t end in an “n” like your last name. Also has nn [name]Mac[/name].
Vintage: [name]Love[/name] [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Owen[/name], [name]Barnaby[/name] [name]Owen[/name], [name]Felix[/name] [name]Owen[/name], [name]Dexter[/name] [name]Owen[/name], [name]Chester[/name] [name]Owen[/name], [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Owen[/name]. [name]Arthur[/name] is a great name! One of my faves. It is Celtic.
The Maxes: [name]Maxwell[/name] and [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Owen[/name] are cute! nn [name]Max[/name]. Yeah, it’s popular, but oh so cute.
Celtic, Scottish: [name]Magnus[/name] [name]Owen[/name] - wonderful! And [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Owen[/name]. And [name]Lewis[/name] [name]Owen[/name].
Pilgrim: [name]Miles[/name] [name]Owen[/name] - so cute, sounds great! This is my favorite sounding combo on my list.
My fave besides [name]Cormac[/name]: [name]Neil[/name] [name]Owen[/name] - love it! [name]Neil[/name] could be a nn for [name]Cornelius[/name] if you want to be really brave. [name]Neil[/name] is not considered stylish at Nameberry, but I think it’s ready for a comeback.
More Irish: [name]Declan[/name] [name]Owen[/name]. The “cl” helps offset the two two-syllable names ending in “n”.
Also love [name]Ansel[/name] [name]Owen[/name]. [name]Ansel[/name] is [name]German[/name].

I say do it. DH and I think middle names are the perfect place to put your quirky choices, personal heroes, and awkward family names! (as a person whose grandmothers were [name]Wilma[/name] and [name]Margene[/name], I can say that I’m grateful I didn’t get their names for my first name!)

[name]Cormac[/name] is gorgeous with [name]Owen[/name],

[name]Conor[/name],
[name]Fergus[/name],
[name]Finnegan[/name],
[name]Rowan[/name].
[name]Rupert[/name],
[name]Theodore[/name].
