While looking at names I fell in love with [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. The first person I mentioned this to said it was too trendy, and a boy’s name. They compared to [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] and naming a girl [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Basically pooped on my cute name parade
Could someone suggest some names similar to [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] but a little less common? The only two I’ve found are [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (I’m not a fan of either).
My shortlist of names before I found [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] was:
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u].
But none of these really stick out to me. I just like them more than most others.
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] and [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] are definitely not comparable. [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is an established name with a history, whereas [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] is a nonsensical modern invention.
I agree. This woman’s comment was just really off putting. I thought, if anything, [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] went more in line with the [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] fad that I’ve noticed.
I think [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is just fine! I’ve met plenty of Audreys but never an [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]! It’s a darling choice. If you’re still unsure, here’s a list of others similar, but don’t lets other’s rain on your parade!
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is really nice. Not at all similar to [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] and def not boyish. You might like: [name_f]Brielle[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Alba[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f].
update: the closest name I’ve found so far, that I like, is [name_f]Aislin[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] but it’s my cousin’s name.
I like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] for the “elf ruler” meaning. I think that’s really cool. Its also just far enough outside of the top ten that it’s familiar sounding but not too over used.
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is NOT a Naveah! It’s also not trendy. I have run across/ known of several female [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]'s that range in age of 3- 58. It may be a little more popular than it used to be, but it’s no where near as popular as [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and other similar names! It’s a beautiful name! I would stick to it if you love it!
I think [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is adorable!
Thank you all for saying nice things about [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. I think I will keep it on my short list and just keep any future name ideas private.
I am considering [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Willow[/name_f], and [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_u]Rene[/name_u] (my middle name).
I’m only 21 so I think I can get away with the millennial name thing
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is my winner at the moment. I still have until [name_u]January[/name_u] to change my mind or find something I like more.
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] isn’t comparable to [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. It’s well established as a girls’ name, and although it is higher on the popularity list, it isn’t wildly popular. [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is such a lovely name.
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is neither boyish nor “trendy” (whatever that means). I always just hear it as [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] but with a b instead of a d, so it’s a very familiar sounding name to me, but unusual because I’ve never met a single [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] in my life. If you love that name, use it anyway. It’s your child.
And pulling from your prior shortlist, I think [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] sounds lovely.
I love [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]! [name_f]Every[/name_f] person or character that I have heard of with this name has been a girl. Also where I’m from its not super common but well known. I agree that [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] are closer than [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f].

I have a 7 year old niece named [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]! I think it’s definitely a pretty name for a girl, and she told me she’s never met another person with her name, boy or girl. I’ve also never met another person the name [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u].
If you love it, choose it! [name_f]May[/name_f] sound cliche but once your little person is born everyone will love them and their name will be THEIRS!
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is great for a girl, it’s trendy, but it’s not tacky or overly used. These days, the name is overwhelmingly given to girls rather than boys and on going generations will most likely think of it as feminine, the way we all think of [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] as feminine nowadays.
The names I’ve come across which give me a similar vibe to [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] are Ambrine, Embrey and [name_u]Ember[/name_u].
