Auburn?

Opinions on [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] as a girl’s name?

I think it’s cute and an alternative to [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. Her school yard nickname will probably be Aubs.

I don’t love it - I’m a big fan of names that start with Au-, but the “-burn” sound is just so masculine to me, or maybe it’s that “burn” carries with it a negative connotation. I like both [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], and I think less common alternatives like [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_f]Audra[/name_f] are nice as well!

I’m not sure it is wearable because of “burn”.
I like [name_f]Aubrielle[/name_f] or [name_f]Aubriella[/name_f]

I agree with it being a good alternative to [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]! I think [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] is pretty… just dont forget the name its also associated with colors and football!

I love A names, but am not a fan of this one. Sorry. It doesn’t feel like a name to me any more than [name_u]Cerulean[/name_u] does.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Audrina[/name_f], or [name_u]Arden[/name_u]?

[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] is a gorgeous color but I dislike the “burn” in the word.

That’s actually why we’re considering it. DH & I are both [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] University graduates. We’re kind of worried about using it as a first name because we still live in [name_f]Alabama[/name_f], so [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] is said all the time-referring to football.

We plan on the girls having “double barrel” names, so she would potentially be [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] or something similar. Not sure if that makes any difference on people’s opinions at all!

Well, I actually think that living in [name_f]Alabama[/name_f] means that [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] is pronounced a little differently than in other places. I think it’s pretty with more of an emphasis on the “Aw” part like the way you’re saying it. I say go ahead! It’s very pretty!

I think [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] sounds pretty for a girl. No one else will have it as a name when she is growing up!

It actually does make a difference for me! I like it much more in the second slot.

[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] sounds masculine & better suited for a boy. The fact that you live in [name_m]AL[/name_m] & went to the school makes it way too on the nose. I’m sure [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] as a first or middle name is not unheard of in your state and probably elicits smiles from some but eye-rolls from others. Why not use something less obvious like [name_u]Aubry[/name_u]/[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] or [name_m]Aubra[/name_m]?

I was going to say this. I’m from [name_f]Alabama[/name_f] as well, and [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] isn’t pronounced in such a way that the “burn” is emphasized. It sounds more like AW-brun.

I think [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] works as a name. It would fit in well with current trends being 2 syllables ending in -n and starting with Au- like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] etc.

I like it as a middle name, not as a first.

I dislike [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] as a name.

I cannot express my love for this name enough. It’s gorgeous, and I wish I were brave enough to use it.

Ironically, as many people as we know who are die hard fans of the football team, I have never met an [name_u]Auburn[/name_u]. There are many choices associated with the school-[name_u]Bo[/name_u] ([name_m]Jackson[/name_m]), Samford ([name_m]Hall[/name_m]) and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] (Avenue) to name a few that are much more common when naming a child after AU, generally. Many people get married in front of Samford [name_m]Hall[/name_m], and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] Avenue is the iconic cobblestone sidewalk street everyone associates with campus.

I had never considered [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] until I met a woman overseas-in [name_u]Holland[/name_u]-with the name.

My husband is not a fan of [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]/[name_u]Aubry[/name_u] at all. [name_m]Aubra[/name_m] is lovely, but we are drawn to [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] because of it’s connection to the school. Our children will be growing up sitting in front row seats on the 50 yard line that have been in my husbands family for 60 years. We feel like this is a way to connect to that part of my husband’s “heritage.”

Currently, we are considering [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Posy[/name_f] or [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f].

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] & [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] are family names, and [name_f]Posy[/name_f] is my maiden name-spelled with an ‘e.’

Thank you so much! We are really loving it!

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have opinions on our current combinations?

[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Posy[/name_f]
[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Posy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Posy[/name_f]

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_f]Posy[/name_f] are all family names.
