I have two children, [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Riley[/name] and [name]Auden[/name] [name]Gray[/name]. [name]Auden[/name] is a girl. I just got a BFP. I’m so excited, but drawing a blank for boy names. I have zero ideas. I want it to fit – to be literary and meaningful and smart. But I have no ideas. I wish I could just say it’s because I’m sooo tired, but really I just suck at boy names. [name]Auden[/name] [name]Gray[/name] was our name last time, boy or girl.
I’m open to suggestions for girl names too. (We’ve talked about [name]Zadie[/name]?) I’m unwilling to consider anything “popular.” Many thanks!
I think you need to stick with an “A” name. What about Alcott? As in Louisa May Alcott? I think it works for either sex. And BTW, I adore your name choices!
I second the suggestions for Aristotle and Alcott!! great names that would fit with the siblings’ names.
Also…
Almanzo (like in Laura Ingalls Wilder…)
Apollo
Aesop
Axel (William Faulkner character)
Aslan (C.S. Lewis’ Narnia)
Arthur (like King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table…)
For girls, there’s…
Artemis (I’d consider Greek mythology as pretty literary.)
Aravis (C.S. Lewis character).
Great suggestions. Keep 'em coming. I was thinking Z. I don’t know if having three As is cheese … My husband was pushing for [name]Finn[/name] last time, but I think it’s a little too common for us.
My original girls name was [name]Alvie[/name] [name]Rae[/name]. It would have been after my grandfather, [name]Alvin[/name]. ([name]Remember[/name] in the movie beautiful girls when the girl [name]Marti[/name] says, I’m named after a grandfather I never even knew … That.) But now it doesn’t really fit with the literary theme. And I think [name]Rae[/name] and [name]Gray[/name] are too rhymie.
[name]How[/name] about [name]Alexandria[/name], nickname [name]Zandie[/name]?? I know a girl with that name from college. It sticks with the A-theme you have, and is similar to your suggestion of [name]Zadie[/name]. (also literary: Aunt [name]Alexandria[/name] from To Kill a Mockingbird, which given your son’s name, I would assume you’re a fan)
I absolutely love [name]Atticus[/name] and [name]Auden[/name]! I like both [name]Zadie[/name] and [name]Zora[/name] for girls, great literary names.
For boys how about:
[name]Amos[/name] or [name]Abel[/name] if you want to keep A
[name]Milo[/name] (this is my son’s name, we named him after the Phantom Tollbooth)
[name]Holden[/name]
[name]Saul[/name]
[name]Huckleberry[/name] (one of my favorites)
[name]Emerson[/name]
[name]Cormac[/name]
Ugh. It’s been months and we’re still struggling! We’re thinking [name]Zadie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] for a girl and for a boy we’re considering [name]Emerson[/name], [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name] – although honestly, we’re not totally in love with any of them. I kind of like [name]Zade[/name], but that seems made up. Still looking for something meaningful if anyone wants to chime in. I’m especially drawn to vowel names, and if it wasn’t so popular, I might pick [name]Oliver[/name] …
