What do you think of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] for a boy?
I’ve always liked [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] for a girl, but I recently heard it used on a boy and found it really interesting! It also made me think of [name_f]Aubrey[/name_f], which has a much longer history of being used for boys, although it’s now more commonly associated with girls, and somehow out of the two feels more feminine to me, maybe because of the ‘bree’ sound?
I think it has a lovely sound, and I wonder whether anyone else can picture it on a boy despite its traditionally feminine associations.
Do you think it could work as a genuinely wearable masculine name, or is it just too strongly associated with girls?
I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts, both positive and negative!
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] in general but I think if I saw it on a boy I would definitely be obsessed. I love love love girl names for boys (I would name my son [name_f]Harper[/name_f] or [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] in a heartbeat) and I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] would be great on a boy! Especially with its similarity to [name_f]Aubrey[/name_f] and its slightly modern sound, I think it would fit right in with today’s names. I think it’s totally doable!!
No, I could not picture it on a boy. It may be due to family association for me. It’s a big family name with my relatives across generations after one of my aunts. I actually also knew a boy [name_f]Aubrey[/name_f] so I associate it more with boys. I knew a girl [name_f]Abrey[/name_f], that’s more feminine between the two names energy for me. So is [name_f]Avery[/name_f]. But also [name_f]Avery[/name_f] could be more usuable and I have seen it used on boys just as much. But [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]? No. It’s definitely solely feminine to me. I do love taking soft names and making them unisex but I just don’t think I could do it with this.
I like it but i am very pro- reclaiming boys names and using “girls” names on boys. I think it’s wearable and familiar enough that it doesn’t feel particularly “girly”, it feels like a vintage british sound to me.
