Auggie or Augie?

I love the name [name_u]August[/name_u], with the nn [name_m]Augie[/name_m]. However, my girlfriend thinks it should be spelled Auggie. I always feel like a nickname should be shorter than the actual name (even if just by one letter!), plus there is only 1 “g” in [name_u]August[/name_u] to begin with. I asked a couple of our friends, and they seem to go with the “Auggie” spelling as well. What do you all think? [name_m]How[/name_m] have you seen it spelled before? I know it doesn’t make much of a difference, but I just want to get a feel for what others think. Thanks!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I’m with you. [name_m]Augie[/name_m] makes way more sense, because it’s [name_u]August[/name_u] not Auggust. Go with your gut.

I don’t know any, but I feel like [name_m]Augie[/name_m] looks more pleasing to the eye.

I feel like Auggie is probably more intuitive though because most nn’s have the double letter even though the main name only contains one. Think [name_u]Abby[/name_u], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_m]Johnny[/name_m]/[name_m]Jonny[/name_m] for example.

I would naturally think Auggie but I do prefer the double letter in most nicknames as mentioned above.

I prefer the double g spelling

I prefer Auggie

In theory I would prefer [name_m]Augie[/name_m] and definitely for all the reasons you listed, plus I just like the look of it. However, I pronounce Auggie as intended, but [name_m]Augie[/name_m] as “aw-jee”.
