We have August on our short list for a boy name, but I’ve recently been hearing of it for girls too, and it’s definitely grown on me.
Our son is Carson Russell. Possible name combos for August would be August Lynn, August Rose, August Roselyn, August Lorelei, August Lauren. Open to more middle name suggestions too. Rose and Lynn are honor names, but nothing is set in stone.
Side note - besides Auggie (which leans masculine to me) are there are any other common nicknames for August as a girl?
[name_u]August[/name_u] itself could be a nickname for [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] or [name_u]Augustine[/name_u], too, but it’s nice on its own as well!
I like [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]! [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] starts to sound a bit descriptive, like a flower blooming in August…?
[name_u]August[/name_u] is so charming I like it a lot!
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Roselyn[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] are lovely! [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rosette[/name_f] came to mind!
Maybe combining the sounds of the first and middle for nicknames, you could make Ari/Ary, [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_m]Aro[/name_m], [name_f]Aura[/name_f]? Maybe [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] or [name_f]Attie[/name_f] too?
Auggie and Gus do lean masculine but I have been thinking how spunky and unexpected they would be on a baby girl. Otherwise Aggie, or Gussie is a nn for Augusta if that appeals.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u] for a girl! I think [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is so pretty but can also see how it just sounds like words… my favorite middle is [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f].
Seconding [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] (and Oz) for a nickname! Not sure that [name_u]Gussie[/name_u] is a better option than [name_m]Auggie[/name_m], but I have read a book with an [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] nn [name_u]Gussie[/name_u].
I do prefer [name_u]August[/name_u] for a boy and personally would use [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] however I can see the appeal with [name_u]August[/name_u] for a girl she feels fresh, upbeat and has a summery bright aesthetic. I think [name_u]Carson[/name_u] & [name_u]August[/name_u] do feel well matched both being outdoorsy with a southern flair
I like [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] she feels summery bright and has a lovely southern [name_f]Belle[/name_f] sound. I think [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a bit too descriptive but [name_f]Roselyn[/name_f] works and again feels very southern to get the honour in for [name_f]Rose[/name_f] you could use [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] & [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] both sound lovely with [name_u]August[/name_u]. Honestly though I’m really loving [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] such a sparkly name.
Nickname wise I like the idea of [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] a sweet vintage nickname!
I love [name_u]August[/name_u] for a girl! [name_u]Gussie[/name_u] is a cute nickname.
I second the comment on combining the first with the middle name would give you a good nickname:
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or Laurel/Lauren could be “Allie/Ollie”
[name_u]August[/name_u] Rose/lyn “Ari/Arlie”
LOVE [name_u]August[/name_u] on a girl! Personally I think [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] is adorable and would totally call a girl that. It gives me the same vibes as [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]!
I love [name_u]August[/name_u] for a girl! I know (of) one whose nickname is [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. It’s so cute. [name_u]Gussie[/name_u] and [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] would also be adorable! I also have a cousin (who is a girl) whose middle name is [name_u]August[/name_u]. It’s such a delight on that sunny little girl that she is!
From your list, [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is absolutely my favorite. That’s a beautiful, beautiful name. I might suggest [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] or [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] for middles as well!
I like [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Roselyn[/name_f]! [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is charming, as is [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but there may be a little too much description for some. (I personally like it, hence my combos [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] )
I like it for both girls and boys; usually boys, but [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Swift’s song made me see it on girls. Before that, I saw it masculine because of [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] from [name_u]Wonder[/name_u]. As for nicknames, I’m not sure if any are common, per se, but some ideas I had were~
[name_u]August[/name_u] itself could also be short for [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] or [name_f]Augustina[/name_f], which are far more feminine if that is what you would like.
