I am currently trying to figure out middle names to go with the names on my list. I finally found ONE that I think goes well with my favorite name on my list, [name_m]Iver[/name_m]. The middle name I thought would go well with that name is [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], however, I read up on the name and found that it is a traditional Latin girl’s name. To me, it sounds unisex, but what do you guys think?
Also, what middle names do you think would go well with [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] & [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] (my other boy names)? I am not interested in common names (as you can probably tell ).
I will most likely post more (eventually) looking for middle names to go with the girl names on my list.
I actually love [name_m]Iver[/name_m] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] for a boy! [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], while typically a girl name, doesn’t have an extremely feminine sound. I’ve never considered it for a boy before, but now I really like it!
The masculine form would be [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] — I think [name_m]Iver[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] sounds pretty good too. Or [name_m]Iver[/name_m] [name_m]Augustin/name_m. Same rhythm as [name_m]Iver[/name_m] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Iver[/name_m], by the way.
Agree that on sound alone, [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] could totally work as a unisex name. But it has so much history as a girl’s name — and not just as a girl’s name, but as a feminine construction that governs a lot of other Latin-based names — that personally I wouldn’t give it to a boy, especially when there are male forms of the name out there.
That’s not a moral judgment, just a personal preference. I’m not opposed to boys having traditional girl names, as long as parents are prepared for potential pushback.
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] is a great suggestion, thank you!
For the other two names, I was thinking maybe [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] & [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_f]Isle[/name_f] (like the British Isles). But I am not too sure about [name_u]Winter[/name_u] with [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], it’s just difficult to find a name that matches.
Yeah, I wouldn’t use [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] for a boy. I don’t think it reads as unisex at all. Normally, I’m all for pushing the girls’-names-on-boys envelope, but masculine variations of [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] exist and are much nicer-sounding, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]! I love the sound of [name_m]Iver[/name_m] [name_m]Augustin[/name_m]. Very distinguished.
[name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_f]Isle[/name_f] is cool. Other ideas: [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_u]Cato[/name_u], [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_u]Brook[/name_u], [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_m]Caius[/name_m], [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]. And maybe [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Lucian[/name_m], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Mica[/name_u], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Rio[/name_u], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Vale[/name_u]?
I agree with the above poster, I wouldn’t use [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] on a boy when there are multiple male versions of the name out there. [name_m]Even[/name_m] just [name_m]Iver[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] sounds nice
I love the sound of [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u], but [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] [name_f]Isle[/name_f] has too many repeating letters imo.
[name_u]August[/name_u] is such a handsome boys name, but [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] looks like a girls name (albeit a horrible one.) I’d steer away from it.
