Augustin / Augustine / Augustus

Hello,

Considering one of these options for an [name]August[/name] baby (hence the exclusion of the simpler [name]August[/name] - which I love - but don’t feel right using it for an [name]August[/name] baby). We have chosen a girls name that we adore - [name]Marguerite[/name]. Big sister is [name]Eulalie[/name].

I’d love to hear your personal preference. Also, I’m interested in how you’d pronounce [name]Augustine[/name].

Other considerations are [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name]. Please let me know if you think one of these is a better fit.
Thanks!

My favourite is [name]Augustus[/name] out of the three.

Aw, I love [name]Eulalie[/name]! It’s very rare to see that name.

Between the Aug- names, [name]Augustin[/name] is my favorite though [name]Augustus[/name] is right behind. I love all of the other names you have mentioned too.

[name]Augustin[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]? [name]Augustin[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]? [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Augustus[/name]? The possibilities with these names are great!

I like [name]Augustine[/name] the best “augus-teen”. It fits perfectly with your girl names- uncommon but not unheard of

I like [name]Augustus[/name].

I really like [name]Augustus[/name]. I think it’s adorable. [name]Augustine[/name] I think could grow on me quickly as well.

[name]Augustine[/name] (Augus-teen) sounds feminine to me.
[name]Both[/name] [name]Augustin[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name] have more of an emphasis on the ‘gus’ part and I like that better. I prefer [name]Augustin[/name], but both are nice.

I love them all, but [name]Augustine[/name] (aw-gus-teen) is my favorite.

I say ‘teen’ for [name]Augustine[/name] too, and with that pronunciation it sounds feminine to my ears. I do love [name]August[/name], quite a lot more than [name]Augustin[/name] or [name]Augustus[/name]. My baby was due last [name]August[/name] and we seriously considered [name]Augusta[/name] for a girl and I couldn’t decide if it was better or worse that she be born in [name]August[/name]. The best advice I received was, ignore the baby’s birthday and pick the name you love. [name]Just[/name] passing that on since you love [name]August[/name] too.
Of the other options, I like [name]Frederick[/name] quite a lot. If you use nicknames, [name]Fritz[/name] is my favorite.

[name]Augustine[/name] = Aw-gus-teen

I really like [name]Augustus[/name] (It will be my featured name of the day tomorrow.) I think it’s super handsome and strong! But I couldn’t use it personally since I already have a [name]Maximus[/name].

[name]Augustin[/name]! I love it. It has the end in en sound so that somehow makes it sound a bit more modern and less over the top than the other two. I think it is incredibly handsome and is one of two names we are considering if our next one is a boy. [name]Augustine[/name] looks and sounds too feminine to my ears. I pronounce it augus-teen.

[name]Augustin[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] is our combo and I love it. Makes me happy every time I read it

Good luck!

I’d go with either [name]Augustus[/name] or [name]Augustin[/name].

I think I prefer [name]Augustus[/name] of the three, but not by a ton. I like all of them quite a bit, and think they all go well with [name]Eulalie[/name].

[name]Augustin[/name]. I also like [name]Augustine[/name] when it’s pronounced like [name]Augustin[/name] but I don’t like the “teen” pronunciation on a man.

I like [name]Augustin[/name] best as I emphasize the AUG more in this name, just like the word/name [name]August[/name]. In [name]Augustus[/name] I emphasize [name]Gus[/name] more & I say [name]Augustine[/name] like the [name]Florida[/name] town St [name]Augustine[/name] Aww [name]Gus[/name] Teen. [name]Augustin[/name] makes me think Borroughs, [name]Augustine[/name]= [name]Florida[/name], [name]Augustus[/name]= [name]Charlie[/name] & the Chocolate Factory.

[name]Augustin[/name] seems weird to me, since the standard spelling for both famous saintly namesakes is [name]Augustine[/name]. It feels unfinished. (And I think [name]Augustin[/name] [name]Burroughs[/name] made it up.) [name]Both[/name] [name]AugusTEEN[/name] and Aww [name]GUS[/name] ten are standard pronunciations. You could choose whichever you wanted, and remind the other 50% to say it your way.

You can also use the shorter [name]Austin[/name], which is a contraction of [name]Augustine[/name].

[name]Augustus[/name] isn’t my style–too overblown and imperial. But then I’m not a fan of [name]Maximus[/name] either. In some ways, [name]August[/name] is the best choice, regardless of his birth month.

[name]Will[/name] you use nn [name]Gus[/name]?

[name]Love[/name] all of these three names!! We had [name]August[/name] on our shortlist for boys, although I think all these variations are just as wonderful.

I think they all go beautifully with [name]Eulalie[/name] (and Margueite for that matter!) as have similar level of strength, beauty, intrigue and complexity.

The nicknames of [name]Augie[/name] or [name]Gus[/name] are both great!

I’m also Australian and this is how I’d pronounce them:

  1. [name]Augustin[/name] (Aw-[name]GUS[/name]-tin) This is my favourite of the three. Very strong and manly but still artistic and interesting.

  2. [name]Augustine[/name] (Aw-goos-teen) Still very handsome, but in a softer more romantic way… Sounds particularly well matched to your daughters beautiful name.

  3. [name]Augustus[/name] (Aw-gus-TUS) with its strong and sturdy ending this name is the least frills of the three but still fun to say and lovely to hear. (I think i only put it last because I do think of [name]Charlie[/name] and Chocolate Factory character… But the association is pretty weak and would be easily overwritten by meeting an adorable real life boy or man with this name!)

I actually don’t think you could go wrong with any of these choices…

[name]Male[/name] [name]Augustine[/name] = Aw-[name]GUS[/name]-tin (like the [name]MALE[/name] saints)
Female [name]Augustine[/name] = AW-gus-teen

Although I slightly prefer the name [name]Augustus[/name], I think [name]Augustine[/name] would be the best choice with an older sister named [name]Eulalie[/name]. [name]Theodore[/name] would be my second pick. I wouldn’t want another name with an “E” initial so [name]Edmund[/name] is out. [name]Frederick[/name] is ok but it sounds kind of clunky next to [name]Eulalie[/name]. BTW - I love your naming style!
