Augustine?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!

So a few days ago I came across a little girl named [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] (pronounced AW-gus-teen) and I can’t get the name out of my head. My husband and I have not yet decided on a name for our second twin girl, so I suggested it to him and surprisingly he loved it!

I know that a lot of people on this site have very strong feelings towards boys names being used for girls, but I want to know what your thoughts are. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] on a girl? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] goes well with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f]?

Thanks in advance!

I do prefer it for a boy but i think it could be really cute on a little girl! It goes well with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

I love [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] for a boy, I had never thought of it for a girl. But I believe I heard/read somewhere that the ‘tine’ ending is actually feminine in [name_m]French[/name_m]? I could be wrong but I think that’s correct. I think it could be really original for a little girl. It would age well too. I like it a lot with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

I prefer [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] for a boy (even though it’s pronounced differently “AW-gus-tin”). I think [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] would be a better choice for a girl. I’ve seen some parents change the spelling to [name_f]Augusteen[/name_f] for a female but that’s not very attractive. You really do like names that contain s’s in them, don’t you? [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_m]Augustine[/name_m]!

No no no! [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] is ugly as it is, whatever gender! Please dont bare it upon a beautiful baby girl!!!

Same goes for any [name_u]August[/name_u] name, apart from [name_u]August[/name_u] itself (on a boy)

Thank you for your feedback! It’s very helpful.

[name_u]Mischa[/name_u], yes, I guess we do! It’s funny because until it was pointed out to me here, I didn’t even realize that we tend to gravitate towards names with “s” and it’s definitely true because another one of our choices is [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].

Sorry, accidentally double posted

I like [name_m]Augustine[/name_m]. It’s a pretty name it goes fine with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

I like [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] and it’s definitely a girl name.

[name_m]Augustin[/name_m] is a boy name, [name_m]AugustinE[/name_m] is a girl name. It’s the same thing for all the latine names (in latine language, a E ending designates a woman). [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is a girl name, [name_m]Valentin[/name_m] a boy name, [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is a girl name, [name_m]Constantin[/name_m] is a boy name, Clémentin is a boy name, Clémentine is a girl name, [name_m]Justin[/name_m] is a boy name, [name_f]Justine[/name_f] is a girl name, etc, etc.

I don’t know why Americans want to change that :joy:

So go for it! You are 100% right

I think it’s gorgeous and would love to hear it on a little girl. I also like [name_u]August[/name_u] on a girl too

I love [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] on a girl, although I think [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] is kind of perfect with [name_f]Frances[/name_f] & [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

Good luck!
