Aurelia vs. Aurora

Which one do you prefer and why?

Both names have something magical about them, I think. Aurora reminds me of the northern lights, of course, which I absolutely long to see but love already. I’ve heard it on a little girl during last years winter holiday and have been smitten by it every since, especially when remembering it being called out loud.

Aurelia reminds me of my childhood summers in Spain, which have always been the funnest and best ones (I also love the Spanish pronunciation). The meaning is gorgeous and the name does remind me of sceneries set in golden light.
I’m a big sucker for -lia names though so it’s no surprise Aurelia impresses me this much.

Also, I’m not considering either for a first name, atm but rather as a middle name for Penelope.
Which do you prefer for that? It would either be Penelope _____ Aurora/Aurelia OR Penelope Aurora/Aurelia _____!

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] because I am not sure how to pronounce the other name. I also like the nickname [name_u]Rory[/name_u] for [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]! I just plain like the sound of [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] better, but for no objective reason. I guess I think of [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] as being more delicate and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] bolder. I also find [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] a little bit tongue-twistery sometimes and I never have that problem with [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f].

I love both but it I had to choose, I’d go with [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is less common and not as trendy as [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. And [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] can be a tongue-twister for some. I love [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] as a standalone or a nn for [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. Other nn options (depends on how you pronounce [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]): [name_f]Ria[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], Aury, [name_m]Rey[/name_m], [name_u]Elia[/name_u], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ora[/name_f]

I adore both but slightly prefer [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f].

I think I prefer [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] though honestly am pretty neutral overall. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] seems easier to say and I think the nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is pretty cute. I think the middle syllable on both names just doesn’t appeal to me, one is “roar” and the other is “rail” unless you’re pronouncing it “rell”, but yeah. Another poster said the opposite! haha. So I think they are just those kind of names!

This is a tough one! My favourite always used to be [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]; I think it has a lovely sound, meaning, look etc. However, I don’t like how it’s pronounced in English (sounds too harsh), and it’s becoming too popular in my country. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is practically unused here, and I have grown to love it as it’s one of SO’s favourite names. It’s also beautiful, melodic, and easier to pronounce in different languages.

Conclusion: I still love [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] a little bit more, but I would probably choose [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] if I had to use one.

Both are beautiful names but i prefer [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] because l love tge sleeping beauty reference and i find her nickname choices much more beautiful than [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]'s .

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]! It’s easier to say, I prefer its meaning to [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]'s, and I love that it’s a kind of jellyfish so there’s a subtle nature/ocean connection.

Thank You.
Which of the two do you like better with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] as either [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] Aur… ___ or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ___ Aur…?

I prefer [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] it just seems more elegant to me.

I prefer [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], because for me it is easier to say with my accent. I also prefer the meaning, [name_u]Golden[/name_u], to [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]'s meaning ([name_f]Dawn[/name_f]).

I like both (also the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Aurore[/name_f] and Aurélie), but I think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] gets my vote. Because of the meaning, I think, it’s just always seemed really hopeful to me. I love the nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u] (and maybe even [name_f]Rora[/name_f]; I love [name_u]Rory[/name_u] for a boy so much that I have troubles “seeing” it on a girl anymore), and I love that it reminds me of so much beauty in nature. I do love that [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]/Aurélie means “golden”, though, and I like some of its nicknames, too (especially [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_f]Lia[/name_f]). For you, I like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] better, just because [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] do seem quite matchy, unfortunately.

I prefer [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. It’s a gorgeous name.

Thank You All!
The pronunciation doesn’t bother me as [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is really not a hard name to say in [name_m]German[/name_m] and I’m not considering it as a first name at this point.
I’m interested in how everybody pronounces [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], though.
Plus, I’ve added a bit of information so I’d be lovely if you would read that and also answer my second question

Hmmm. I kind of prefer [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] as a mn for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] since it’s a different number of syllables and doesn’t share that -el- in the middle.

I think I also prefer [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] but somehow I love the sound of [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ____ [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], too

I love [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]! It sounds prettier than [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. In Spanish, it is pronounced Au-ray-lee-ah.

Unless I’m pronouncing it wrong, all I hear in [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] or “oral” and I don’t like it. So, for that reason, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
