Aurelia

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. My top girl name currently. Middle name would be [name_f]Rose[/name_f] if I ever got the chance to use it on an actual human. I love it. I love how it looks, how it sounds, and the nickname [name_f]Aura[/name_f].

However, I have one query. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce the two first syllables? Aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u] or aw-[name_f]REE[/name_f]? It’s not a huge deal either way as I love both pronunciations, I’m just finding out the most popular.

Thanks!

I like this name but I would pronounce it Aw-reh-lee-uh or Or-reh-lee-uh.

I say ah-RAIL-ya, or aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a gorgeous name!

I say Aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-lee-uh. She’s a bit neglected on my list, but I really like the sound and feel of it.

That pronunciation didn’t even cross my mind!

@ursa_minor thank you!

I’m pretty certain the more familiar ways to say it are aw-REEL-ya/aw-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-lee-uh and aw-RAIL-ya/aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-lee-uh (or thereabouts). I’m not a fan of aw-reh so hoping it isn’t common!

My intictive pronunciation is Ar-ell-ee-ah or Or-ell-ee-ah

Aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u] to me

I would say “ray” since it’s the pronunciation I prefer but I wouldn’t be surprised either way.

I say something like “Or-ellie-ah” usually

But it out of the options you wrote I’d say Aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]

The name is just stunning! Most beautiful name ever

I love the combination of [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]!

But…I’m one of those people who in my head hear the name as Aw-REH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-uh. I’m in upstate NY & I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say the name out loud, so IDK if the way I think of the pronunciation is common to my area or if it’s just what’s instinctive to me. I suppose technically, as there’s just one L in the name, the second syllable should have the long vowel sound, so Aw-ree-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-uh, but that doesn’t sounds as attractive to me. If I were going to choose a different pronunciation, I’d go for Aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-uh.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

It’s always been my instinct to pronounce [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] Aw-ray-lee-uh, and it’s a beautiful name: One of my favorites. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a beauty!

I would say uh-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-lee-uh naturally, though pretty much all the other pronunciations make sense to me too and I could be corrected easily.

Thank you all! I want to avoid aw-REL-EE-uh as much as possible. I’m in the UK if it helps at all, specifically [name_f]England[/name_f], and I’m under the assumption it’d be strictly [name_u]RAY[/name_u]/[name_f]REE[/name_f] and not, REL.

I don’t think you’d get REL in the UK. I’ve only ever encountered the [name_f]REE[/name_f] pronunciation here, but admittedly it’s not a common name.

I’ve only heard it as Aw-reh-lee-ah/Or-reh-lee-ah. And I read the name as or-reh-lee-ah before ever hearing it said aloud.

For context I live in the US, west coast. If you live elsewhere pronunciation may be different.

I’ll add if choosing between your options I would lean toward aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u] because I really really do not care for the sound of aw-ree-lee-ah.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-Reel-lia. [name_m]Just[/name_m] sounds more like a down to earth name to me. The [name_u]Ray[/name_u] pronunciation is a little bit more upper crust and less relatable to me.

Aw-rel-lee-uh

I love this name, it’s the kind I wish I had myself.

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is among my own top choices for a future girl so I absolutely love love love it. I pronounce it Aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-lee-uh.

I say oh-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-lee-uh or oh-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-lee-uh. The first sound isn’t aw it’s oh

I’m British and I automatically say “aw-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-lee-uh”. It makes sense to me as an English pronunciation, following the pattern of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], etc. “Aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-lee-uh” or “ow-REL-ee-uh” would probably make sense on the Continent, where the aforementioned names are pronounced that way too.
