[name_f]Amitie[/name_f] is [name_m]French[/name_m] and very rare (no one has this name where we live!) which makes me love it. I was hoping for the same thing with this baby if it’s a girl. A rare, [name_m]French[/name_m] name.
I like [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], but I want to pronounce the first name aw-RELL-lie. Nickname, Relly.
(as opposed to O-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-lee or aw-re-[name_u]LEE[/name_u])
Would that be clearer if I changed the spelling to Aurellie? Or should it stay [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f], and just pronounce it the way I want?
[name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] is a way prettier spelling and imo it would be worth it correcting people
I prefer o-ray-lee and aw-re-[name_u]LEE[/name_u] but this is still a very beautiful name
Aw-rell-ee is the pronunciation I would want to strongly avoid. It’s orally but spelled differently. My favourite one is aw-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-lee, although the name itself makes me wary.
Stick with the [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] spelling though, the name is uncommon enough for you to get the pronunciation you desire.
I don’t usually recommend different spellings but in this case I’d say change it to something like Arellie or Aurelly. No need to use legitimate [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] if you’re going to say it differently and use the nn Relly. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my opinion of course! It’s sort of like picking [name_f]Emily[/name_f] but calling her uh-MILL-eye.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f], and Relly is a cute nn. I think, regardless, most Americans will butcher it anyhow, so I think you could get away with just about any pronunciation you wanted, but I wouldn’t change the spelling. I think it loses its beauty when you add to (or take away from) [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f]. (That being said, the [name_m]French[/name_m]-lover in me is a little sad at the idea of purposely mispronouncing a [name_m]French[/name_m] name, but you’re hardly the first one to have done it! lol)
I think a lot of people are going to look at it and pronounce it as Orally. Maybe [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aura[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] would work better?
I’m not sure either of those spellings would prompt someone to guess aw-RELL-lie. Aurellie, at first glance, looks identical to [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] and I’d probably guess the same pronunciation if I encountered it.
The [name_m]French[/name_m] speaker in me is inclined to say aw-ray-[name_u]LEE[/name_u] while the English speaker in me says ARE-rell-lee. It’s also different, I think, in [name_u]America[/name_u] than it is in the US – I’d say in the States “aur”, like in “aura,” is pronounced “are”, whereas in the UK I think you’re more likely to get “orally” from [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f]. Maybe Aurely?
Alternatively, have you considered the name [name_f]Araceli[/name_f]/[name_f]Aracely[/name_f]? It has the same rhythm and cadence of the pronunciation of [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] you desire and could lend itself to the nickname Relly.
