I know it’s eh-lay-nah in the US. Eh-leh-nah in Spanish (our background), but confused how it would be pronounced in an Aussie accent.
TIA.

Australian here. I would instinctively pronounce it Ellen-uh, but mostly because I love that pronunciation (and often want to pronounce [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] the same way ). El-een-a and El-ain-uh would also be said I’m assuming, but I’ve never met an [name_f]Elena[/name_f] so I can’t substantiate this. It really depends on the person, and I do think people would adapt to any pronunciation you choose. [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is a name that has a variety of pronunciations, and if someone gets it wrong, a simple one-time correction would be enough. I also think if you’re going for the Spanish pronunciation, that could work, but it would be the least intuitive for a lot of people I’d imagine.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
i’ve never met an elena, but the best way i can transcribe my instinctive pronunciation would be el-ay-nuh. i have a cousin helena (huh-lay-nuh) so that’s what i base it off!
i could also see el-ehn-ah being intuitive depending on the area/background.
I’ve met 2 Elenas in Australia and they have been Ellen-uh
I say el-lay-na because I know an [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] and i’ve never met and [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
