Avery, Aeris, or Lorelei?

I’m having a baby girl, due March 2023. After reading what feels like the entire internet here is my very short list:

  • Avery Iris Kaffenberger
  • Aeris Lily Kaffenberger
  • Lorelei Bex Kaffenberger
  • Something else

What do you guys think? I’m open to any suggestions, but for the middle name I’m trying to stick to some kind of variant of Rebecca, Sue, Lily, or Iris (it’s to honor a family member). I’m also trying to not have a first/middle name that’s too long because of the last name.

I think all 3 are great, but in my opinion [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is perfect!

I think all three are good - but I second that [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] Kaffenberger really fits! The flow and vibe of that combo are really nice.

So relatable!! Felt like I read half the Internet looking for/overthinking baby names too.

I love [name_u]Avery[/name_u] Iris!! [name_f]My[/name_f] only caution would be that [name_u]Avery[/name_u] has become quite popular, but for a good reason!

I voted Aeris Lily, I absolutely love it. Avery Iris is also very nice but Avery is very popular so that decided it for me! Aeris would be much more distinctive :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Right! Naming is so hard! It’s seriously kept me awake at night sometimes.

I’m definitely on the fence with [name_u]Avery[/name_u] because of the popularity, which sucks because I feel like it pairs the best with my last name compared to the others.

I generally prefer much more obscure names than [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] has been a love of mine as long as I can remember.

However, with your ln, I strongly favor [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. It’s recognizable and simple.
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is only somewhat recognizable in comparison. The combo is very catchy. A lot more spelling and letters, though.
I don’t like to choose against the less predictable options, but I’d consider [name_u]Avery[/name_u] long and hard in your shoes.

[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is lovely!

I think [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] would be nice too

Thank you, you nailed exactly why I am finding this choice to be so difficult. My parents gave me one of the extremely popular names for my birth year and I didn’t like it due to sharing the same name with a lot of people. I wanted to try and avoid that for my kids.

However, like you said the less recognizable choices are gonna be annoying to deal with, having to correct pronunciation/spelling all the time, which is compounded by the longer german last name.

I really like the look of [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]! [name_f]My[/name_f] only hesitation is the two “i” sounds running together, Lore-“lei” and “I”-ris, but it’s still a nice option.

Not advocating that you start over the naming process, but perhaps there is a name in the same vein as [name_u]Avery[/name_u] farther down the charts that you could like as much.

A quick look at the SSA 200-300 revealed [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_u]Marley[/name_u], [name_u]Tatum[/name_u].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite of those is [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], it pairs really well with Kaffenberger. Unfortunately I have a nephew named [name_u]Rowen[/name_u] so I’d feel a bit weird using it.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is so pretty! It’s like [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] put together somehow. Not ignoring [name_f]Aeris[/name_f], just don’t think it’s very doable here. Nephew is too close for me, though.

To put it into numbers for you, in case you haven’t, [name_u]Avery[/name_u] went on 6770 baby girls last year. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], 1253. So, dropping down the chart a little can make a big difference. [name_m]Even[/name_m] dropping down to [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] at 108 means 2566 girls, a significant decrease. [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Remi[/name_u], [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]- in that range have become pretty recognizable without being awfully popular…

Trying to stay in your style somewhat, found [name_u]Teagan[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u], and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] in the 150-200 range and
[name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_u]Palmer[/name_u], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] in the 300-400 range. Also saw [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]- went on 840 girls last year. [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] Bex/ [name_f]Willa[/name_f] Iris… In that range, [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] (I love!) and [name_f]Serena[/name_f], but I don’t know that either of those simplify spelling or length.

Then we reach [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] at 444. It’s been gaining speed for a while but still has some time to go in being popular. Maybe it’s used enough now that it wouldn’t be too complex…

I would probably prefer one of the names I listed above in this situation. I do think now that I really think about it, [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is too popular for you, give your own name history.

Good luck! Let us know.
